WINTER SPORT
In assembly this morning I spoke to the boys about their participation in sport: respecting and accepting the decisions of the referee; respecting the opposition whom we need for the game, while trying their hardest to beat them; thanking their opponents and the umpire after the game; supporting each other in their teams on and off the pitch; acknowledging any good achievements of their opponents; and learning as much as they can while enjoying the experience.

I would also encourage all parents to support our ethos by supporting teams in a positive way. Guy Pearson asked parents in his newsletter last week to:

1. refrain from negative comments at referees, umpires, coaches, players or opposition supporters;
2. position yourself well clear of the playing area; and
3. not approach coaches, officials or teachers/Heads of other schools after the match.

If you have serious concerns after the game about anything that took place on the field or pitch, please contact the Head of that Sport. Please be mindful of the fact that our coaches and referees/umpires are passionate about what they do and are doing their very best.

Our role as adults is to encourage and enjoy. This is a wonderful stage in your sons’ lives, one that passes all too quickly, so do enjoy it.

SKEELES RUGBY 7S
To start the season, we have the Skeeles Rugby 7s Festival in U10-U13 age groups today and tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

Palm Crosses

The boys made Palm Crosses in Divinity this week. These crosses are usually given out at a church service on Palm Sunday (the Sunday before the Easter Weekend), when Jesus came into Jerusalem on a donkey and palm leaves were placed at his feet.
A year later, these dried-out palm crosses will be burned and the ash used in the Ash Wednesday service.
The boys are encouraged to keep their crosses in a safe place at home until next year.
If you would like to know how to fold your own palm cross, please contact Mr. Woolls – jwoolls@bishops.org.za

Academic Scholarships 2020

Academic Scholarship Examinations for 2020 will be written on Thursday 25 April 2019 at the College. Any Grade 7 boy who wishes to write these examinations must complete the entry form and return it to the Admissions Secretary at the College by Friday 9 April. The Entry Form is available HERE.
Outreach

This is the final call for Easter eggs for the pupils of St Paul’s Primary, Athwood Primary, Parkfields Primary and Dalukhanyo Pre-primary amongst others. Thank you very much if you have already donated eggs to this worthy cause.
Advance notice – Civvies Day clothing collection

Every year as Winter approaches we have a Civvies Day clothing collection. This year 26 April is the big day. We usually sort the clothes in the library but this year as space is limited due to renovations, we request that if possible you pack your donations into marked bags, eg. Adult male, adult female, teenage boy, teenage girl, boy, girl, toddler, baby, etc. This will help enormously in the sorting and distribution process.

World Book Day

To celebrate books and reading on 23 April, we are collecting pictures of dogs/pets reading. If you would like to, please send an A4 photo of your pet reading, to the library. These will be displayed around the school.
