FRIDAY 18 January 2019
Dear Parents

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all back to the Prep for 2019. As I said to the boys, it is wonderful to have a holiday but it is also good to be back with one’s friends, back in a routine and, of course, enjoying all the opportunities available. Welcome to our Grade 3s who have come up from the Pre-Prep, as well as the boys new to Bishops who have moved from other schools in Cape Town, other provinces and, in one case, the UK.

NEW STAFF

I also want to extend a very warm welcome to our new members of staff. Firstly, to our Chaplain, Father Monwabisi Peter. He has come to us from St Andrew’s Prep in Grahamstown where he taught and was Chaplain. I was at the Service for his Licensing and Installation in the Memorial Chapel this morning which was conducted by the Archbishop, His Grace Thabo Makgoba. So he is now well and truly our Chaplain. Our new Head of Science and Grade 6 Form teacher is Naadia Luzmore who joins us from St Joseph’s College. Russell Drury will be teaching English and Drama. Originally a teacher at the College for a number of years, he has since then been at Clifton Prep in Durban, and more recently, Somerset College. Juanté Di Trapani joins us in the Counsellor role. She actually did her internship at the Bishops Support Unit while completing her Masters in Educational Psychology. She has had a private practice and worked at Herzlia as the Counsellor.

We also have two new teaching interns: Khets Ngcobo stooged with us last year but has moved into an internship; Kauthar Doutie does her Grade 3 internship this year.

BUILDINGS

As you can see, the first project of the 175 Campaign, our new Library, is well underway. This affects many classes, play areas, etc, but the boys have been amazingly adaptable and managed the changes with relative ease. To solve the loss of play space at Stanmore, Grade 6s and 3s are taking their breaks at Rossall and this seems to be working well.

COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS (GRADE 7S)

With this being such a short term, all Grade 7s will write the College Common Entrance Examinations for College on the second last day of term, Thursday 14 March, so it is essential that all Grade 7 boys are here until the end of the term.

I hope that this will be a great year for you all; fulfilling, enriching and uplifting.

Kind regards

GREG BROWN
HEADMASTER
