FRIDAY 1 June 2018
Dear Parents

For our rugby playing boys tomorrow’s bye provides a free weekend for them and their families in the winter season and I am sure they will enjoy the break.

Next week on Wednesday we will host our Ensemble Concert in the Memorial Chapel. This is a chance for our Wind Band, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, Choir and Marimba Band to perform with the superb acoustics that the Chapel offers. It is a wonderful opportunity for all parents (even if your son does not do music) to see what the Music Department offers and the very high standard of our boys’ delivery.

We play Sweet Valley in hockey next week and our traditional rivals, Rondebosch, at rugby next Saturday. We have organised match times to enable Prep boys to attend the College 1st XV game, which they always thoroughly enjoy. Similarly, Prep boys attending Friday night’s hockey against Rondebosch will see an amazing level of hockey being played.

I am sure we are all grateful for this rain.

Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

TAKE Note

Confirmation

Message from Chaplain Commin:

We have reached the half way mark with our confirmation workshops and the various school groups are getting to know each other and easily share thoughts and insights. The confirmation service will be at St Cyprian’s school on Sunday 26 August at 10.00am. It is important for boys to hand me a copy of their Baptism certificates as soon as possible. I need the date and place of Baptism.

Those who have missed sessions can catch-up by finding the Alpha for Teenager sessions on YouTube, then meeting me for discussions.

The next Confirmation Workshop is at Bishops on Sun 29 July from 09h00-12h00.

MySchool Card

Dear members of the Bishops community

Since re-launching the MySchool Card initiative the response has been very positive, and many members of the Bishops community have, either applied for a new card, or have started using their old ones again. Please remember that you may have more than one beneficiary listed on your card, and we hope that Bishops becomes one of them.

Our thanks to those who have taken up the challenge of ‘Every Swipe Counts’!
As this is a painless way to fundraise, we again appeal to you to please apply for your MySchool card and use it as much as possible at any Woolworths or partner store.
So all that is left for you to do is apply for your card and use it!

For further information you may call 0860 100 445 or visit www.myschool.co.za or email rwilke@bishops.org.za

NEWS
Heart Museum Outing

The Grade 6s went on an outing to the Heart Museum last week. They were very privileged to have Dene Friedman as their tour tour guide who was part of the team for the first heart transplant. They were also joined by Armin Barnard OD and son of the late Prof Chris Barnard. More photos available on our Website.
Rick the Bear Winners

Well done to the under 13A side who were awarded Rick the Bear this week. It was a great team performance by them against Wynberg.
Sandwich Outreach

Athwood Primary School, to whom we provide sandwiches every Tuesday, held a special high tea for grannies and they invited Arthur Mngxekeza (Prep PA member in charge of outreach) which is an indication of how much they appreciate our sandwiches!

We encourage the Grade 7 parents and boys to please prepare sandwiches or bring loaves of bread and spreads aplenty next Tuesday so that we can provide lots of sustenance on these cold winter days.
