Dear Parents
This has and continues to be an eventful week. The CARNIVAL, I know, is on everybody’s mind and promises to be a wonderful event. So many of you have already been involved and we are expecting a record turnout this evening. Lutgensvale has been completely fenced off and security will be very tight. We are lucky to have the whole of the Sahara field (on the College Campus at the bottom gate) available for parking. Please try to park on the College campus. Our neighbours are justifiably anxious about excessive congestion around Lutgensvale as well as parking problems. The pavements will be cordoned off and we will have marshals ensuring that the roads adjacent to Lutgensvale are kept clear. Do attend and have a great evening.
On Monday, we presented our Grade 7s with their senior caps and ties and congratulated the 2019 Heads and Deputy Heads of our Houses. Further to this, every boy in Grade 7 takes a leadership position. Firstly, with a portfolio in his House and secondly, with a duty during his House’s duty week which comes around every 4th week.
Our Student Council has also been selected by the Grade 6s and 7s after a number of Grade 7s presented their ideas for the school to the group in the Hall. Here are the names: Andrew Betty (Chairman), Nicholas Basson (Secretary), Adam Constant, Jordan de Sousa, Robert Forrest, James Grieve, Joseph Lappin, Bafokeng Lehloenya, Jacob Skillicorn.
After we woke up to some very welcome rain on Tuesday morning, the day cleared and provided the perfect weather for our Pentangular Athletics in the evening at Western Province Prep. It is hard to believe that this event was only about the fifth as a Pentangular, whereas before it had been a Quadrangular event for many, many years. We broke with tradition a few years ago and invited Western Province Prep to join us. And now it seems so right – all five boys’ schools in Cape Town pitting their speed, strength and skill against one another in a competitive, spirited and very happy meeting.
Late afternoons and early evenings on Monday and Wednesday in and around Jagger Hall have been very noisy as our Grades 6s and 7s as well as girls from neighbouring schools have auditioned for this year’s musical, “Revelation”. Written by two staff members from our Music Department, it promises to be an exciting experience for our boys over the next two terms.
Enjoy the Carnival and have a very happy weekend.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN
