Dear Parents
Welcome back to the 3rd term. I hope everyone enjoyed a break from school life – the boys have certainly returned excited and re-energised. Our U13, U12 and U11 rugby teams had to jump back into action very quickly to play the Durban Prep touring teams yesterday.
Staff Conference
Our boys also benefitted from an extra day of school holidays as staff across the school participated in a two day Sustainability Conference led by members and associates of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. We were privileged to be exposed to a very high caliber of speaker and panelist who provided extremely challenging information and opinions. A number of these issues were then intensely workshopped with the aid of external facilitators. While we have been running two sustainability committees, the one dealing with social issues and the other environmental, this conference really brought the two together and added in economic sustainability, emphasising the unavoidable inter-connectedness of every aspect of sustainability going forward if we are to sustain and, in fact, vastly improve our world. As we go forward now we will be looking at these issues in terms of action, ensuring that they become a fundamental part of our educational and operational processes.
Bomb scare
Parents may be aware that some schools have received bomb scares over the past few days. This has not been the case at Bishops but we are taking the matter seriously. We have met with SAPS and do have emergency procedures in place should we be on the receiving end of such a threat.
Extra-Murals
All our extra-mural activities will be up and running next week. A number of our U13 and U11 boys are on the way to Beaufort West today and will play games against Nico Brummer and other schools in the area over the weekend.
All the best.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN
