FRIDAY 23 March 2018
Dear Parents

Our Carnival last Friday was a huge success despite the cold wind which did nothing to dampen our spirits. No doubt very useful extra funds were raised to fund a number of the Parent Association’s projects (they will send out a communication to you in the near future), but even more important, we had a wonderful time as a community and a it was a great conclusion to our Founder’s Day celebrations. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the PA Committee and all those who planned and worked so hard as well as to all parents from Grade N-7 who so enthusiastically did their shift on the evening.

As the term draws to a close I want to thank you all for your support this term in so many ways, from lifts for outings to attendance at sports matches and Wednesday morning music concerts, weekly flowers in the office, tuckshop assistance and so much more as well as that which often goes unnoticed but is so important for a school such as ours.

Boys are working very hard on their singing in preparation for Inter-House Singing on Tuesday evening. This is one event on our school calendar where every single boy in the school participates, the most musical and least musical, and House and music staff produce the best possible in the allotted time given. It is always such an uplifting event, hearing four groups of nearly 100 boys each singing their hearts out. I hope you will join us for this on Tuesday evening in the Mallett Centre.

This is my last letter of the term. Please note that Grade 5-7 reports will be on myBishopsLife by Thursday.

We wish all our Jewish families a very Happy Passover.

As we enter Holy Week, I remind you of the Vespers on Monday and Wednesday. These will be special times of contemplation and stillness in the Chapel accompanied by beautiful music and poetry.

I wish you all a very Blessed Easter, happy and restful holidays and safe travels.

Kind regards

Well done to Mathew Selby who advanced into Round 2 of the Science component of the International Maths and Science Olympiad for Grades 6-7. We would also like to congratulate Daniel Fletcher who made it to the second round of the Maths competition. His name was inadvertently left out of last week's newsletter.

NEWS
Bramley Book Drive

Josh Traut, Head of Bramley charity, collected second hand books to donate to the SPCA bookshop. The proceeds of this go towards the care of the animals in the shelter. Thank you to the Bramley parents for their donations. Thank you and well done to Josh on driving this wonderful initiative.
The Armour of God
Cole Heweston was dressed in the theme for this term's chapel assemblies - The Armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Every Monday we looked at an item of the armour and why Paul chose the particular item as being a part of God's armour.
Outreach
A huge thank you to all those families who donated stationery and Easter eggs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. St Paul’s and various schools in Khayelitsha were the recipients of the items.

Carnival

The PA would like to thank all parents and staff for their support and assistance in creating a fun filled profitable evening! They would like to make a special mention of Mr Jerome Wolfaardt and his team for going that extra mile!

The Benefits of Bishops Bursaries

A Bishops education goes beyond teaching children to read and write. Devoted teachers and a wide range of extra mural activities ensure that each child flourishes. Here the boys learn to dream, to face failure and learn from it; to care for others; to be socially and individually responsible. Ultimately, a Bishops education offers our boys opportunities.

Few schools in the Western Cape have the resources to offer this level of education. Consequently, many talented children fall through the cracks of this fractured system each year. Through the Hamilton Mvelase Bursary Fund, we hope to catch some of these deserving boys. An investment in a Bishops education can offer a life-changing opportunity for a boy and his family. We therefore appeal to the Bishops Community to please support this wonderful programme.

We have spoken to several past recipients of Bishops Bursaries to obtain a first-hand account of the benefits of Bishops Bursaries; ODs, Khakhaza Mhlauli and Bulelani “Bobz” Calana reveal how a Bishops education has impacted their lives. To view their stories, please click here.

Thank you!
