FRIDAY 25 January 2019
Dear Parents

The first eight days of school have gone well and the boys are now fully engaged and participating in most areas. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and how quickly they have settled into the school term.

I want to reiterate a few “housekeeping” issues to ensure the school’s smooth running.

COMMUNICATIONS
Please do read the newsletter every week. It contains the most up-to-date information for the week ahead. It gives the latest sports fixtures, practice times, dates and venues; activities and events; information about any changes or areas where we need assistance, as well as reporting on school life to keep you aware and part of what our pupils are doing.

Contact with the teacher should be via email unless the teacher has set up a WhatsApp group for a team, etc. As regards email, please note that we have a 24-hour response policy, so if you need to communicate something urgently, please phone the office. There is no guarantee that a teacher will have time to check emails during the school day.

If your son is absent during the school day, please email the office kkerven@bishops.org.za (as well as your son’s Housemaster and Form teacher) before 08h00. Please state the reason. This is necessary procedurally and, not only helps our pastoral system, but also improves security.

If your son arrives at school after assembly (i.e. 08h05), please ensure that he reports to the office.

PARKING
Closing the Rossall campus for drop off and collection has worked extremely well. It has improved traffic flow in Duke Road and made the parking area outside the classrooms a much safer place for the Grade 3s (and Grade 6s).

SPORTS PRACTICES
We encourage you to attend your son’s matches, but we do not want parents to watch practices. It is a teaching situation and, as such, between team and coach; parents observing often leads to a discussion afterwards about what your son could have done better, etc, and we want him to have the freedom and independence as he has in the classroom. Please do support us in this.

Enjoy your weekend.

Kind regards

Sports Day Information

Sports Day Qualifiers lists were mailed to all parents today. Please check the list to see if your son has qualified as practices start next week for all qualifiers.

Father and Son Camp

The Father and Son camp will be taking place from 22 to 24 February 2019. An email will be sent out to Grade 5, 5 & 7 parents on Monday with a link to a response form. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Prayer Group

Please feel free to join our Parents' Prayer Group in the Woodlands Pavilion on Tuesdays from 07h30. This will be a combined Parents Prayer Group for the Pre-Prep, Prep and College. Contact our Youth Pastor, Justin Woolls (jwoolls@bishops.org.za), if you need assistance.

Sandwich Roster

Please diarise the dates above. We would love to take a bumper crop of sandwiches to Athwood Primary every week!

Class Reps Meeting

An important meeting will be held for all Class Reps on Thursday 31 January 2019 in the Prep Boarding House Dining Room from 07h30. Grade 7 parents, please note - the Gr 7 meeting with teachers where the class reps are decided is on the Wednesday evening preceding the Class Rep meeting so it is very short notice.

Carnival

There’s always a first time! This year, we’ve made some changes to our carnival format:

  • We have ten stalls up for grabs. For just R1000, we will provide two chairs, a 2.4m trestle table with a white table cloth AND an advert in our online business edition of Bishops Blue Pages. The stalls will be in the tent, so you will be sheltered from the elements. You need to provide lighting, cash float (if required) and décor.
  • You can brand a carnival ride. R5000 entitles you to an A3 sized poster AND an advert in our online business edition of Bishops Blue Pages. You may bring additional branding, subject to approval.

MySchool Card

Since re-launching the MySchool Card initiative at Bishops the response has been very positive, and many members of the Bishops community have, either applied for a new card, or have started using their old ones again.

Our thanks to those who have taken up the challenge of ‘Every Swipe Counts’!

As this is a painless way to fundraise, we again appeal to you to please apply for your MySchool card and use it as much as possible at any Woolworths or partner store. Regular feedback on the progress of this initiative will be made available.

The funds raised from this project will be used to upgrade the present libraries, which are used by all the Bishops boys from Pre-Prep to College.

Our aim is to change these facilities into 21st Century Resource Centres which will equip our boys with the skills needed for the future!

So all that is left for you to do is apply for your card and use it!

Please download the MySchool Application HERE.

Please direct your queries to Rosemary Wilke at rwilke@bishops.org.za

Many thanks for your support.
