Dear Parents
The first eight days of school have gone well and the boys are now fully engaged and participating in most areas. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and how quickly they have settled into the school term.
I want to reiterate a few “housekeeping” issues to ensure the school’s smooth running.
COMMUNICATIONS
Please do read the newsletter every week. It contains the most up-to-date information for the week ahead. It gives the latest sports fixtures, practice times, dates and venues; activities and events; information about any changes or areas where we need assistance, as well as reporting on school life to keep you aware and part of what our pupils are doing.
Contact with the teacher should be via email unless the teacher has set up a WhatsApp group for a team, etc. As regards email, please note that we have a 24-hour response policy, so if you need to communicate something urgently, please phone the office. There is no guarantee that a teacher will have time to check emails during the school day.
If your son is absent during the school day, please email the office kkerven@bishops.org.za (as well as your son’s Housemaster and Form teacher) before 08h00. Please state the reason. This is necessary procedurally and, not only helps our pastoral system, but also improves security.
If your son arrives at school after assembly (i.e. 08h05), please ensure that he reports to the office.
PARKING
Closing the Rossall campus for drop off and collection has worked extremely well. It has improved traffic flow in Duke Road and made the parking area outside the classrooms a much safer place for the Grade 3s (and Grade 6s).
SPORTS PRACTICES
We encourage you to attend your son’s matches, but we do not want parents to watch practices. It is a teaching situation and, as such, between team and coach; parents observing often leads to a discussion afterwards about what your son could have done better, etc, and we want him to have the freedom and independence as he has in the classroom. Please do support us in this.
Enjoy your weekend.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN
