FRIDAY 25 October 2019
Dear Parents

WHEN LAST DID YOU HAVE A REASON TO HIGH FIVE?

The VUSA Academy is a Bishops-led initiative that offers a structured after-school programme to children from five primary schools in the Langa Community. Children are offered academic support in Maths and English and rugby training (with entry into the WP Rugby League) and you would have seen VUSA teams often participating on our rugby days. VUSA also works with four registered crèches in Langa aiding in numeracy and literacy development (with weekly support from Bishops Grade 10 Civics pupils). Where funding allows, the recreational programme exposes children to opportunities and places not ordinarily accessible to them. Each child who attends the programme receives a hot daily meal which, to a hungry child, is everything.

We are pleased to report that over the course of this year, VUSA has registered as an NPO and PBO. Bishops continues to back this initiative having pledged financial support for 2020, the Bishops finance department continues to manage the books and VUSA is run by one of our staff, Brendan Fogarty. This is such a positive programme that has grown exponentially over the years. Should any of the Bishops community wish to support the VUSA Academy, please see this short (and uplifting) clip which begs the question: When last did you have a reason to high five? https://www.vusarugbyacademy.com/high-five

Kind regards
