FRIDAY 26 April 2019
Dear Parents

The more that you read, the more things that you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

                                                                                     Dr Seuss

On this Tuesday past, our librarian, Sue Kieswetter, and I attended the opening of a library and Shine Reading Centre at St John’s RC Primary School in Kensington. It was made possible by Partners for Possibility, an NGO that brings business and under-resourced schools together to create new opportunities for development. A past Prep teacher, Fambai Marara, who represented the first corporation involved, proved to be the catalyst for this development. Quite serendipitously, he discovered that we were completely overhauling our library and so we donated our considerable bookshelves and library furniture to St John’s. The Pre-Prep held a book drive and we were able to donate a few hundred books. In the end, a few businesses and NGOs, including The Bookery and another school, were also involved in this collaboration and, of course, many of the St John’s teachers. In the end, they have a brand new library and a Shine Reading Centre. I was amazed at the extent of the collaboration and the real effect of it, and pleased that we were able to play a small part in it. Please see the photographs below – notice our shelves completed rejuvenated with a coat of white paint.

Twelve Grade 6s and two teachers left last night for the Dulwich Exchange in the UK and will spend fourteen days there, experiencing school life, hosted by families as well as a few days out and about in London. I am going across to spend a few days at the school myself and so will be away until before the election. Rob Riches will manage the school in my absence.

Have a good weekend.

Kind regards
