FRIDAY 30 August 2019

Dear Parents

UPDATE ON THE BUILDINGS

The new classrooms are now fully operational and we are slowly sorting out appropriate furnishings. For the Grade 4s there is now place for reading corners and activity areas which need to be properly furnished. But all the furniture actually looks terrible in these new, large and very nicely carpeted rooms. So this is all a work in progress. The library is looking magnificent with all the new furniture arriving (funded by the Parents’ Association from proceeds of this year's Carnival and as soon as all the books are packed out and inventoried, we will open it up to the boys.

The main delay in terms of having our campus fully useable again is the paving and re-structuring of the playground precinct and previous tarred surfaces. The builders are working around the clock on this and putting as many staff on this as possible so we are hoping to have the area open in no later than 10 days' time. One slight eccentricity they are having to deal with is laying 4-square courts in the paving itself - something the builders and architects have never had to do before!

DINING ROOM

In the last few weeks we have placed a teacher on duty in the dining room to specifically monitor the conduct of the boys having day boys' lunch. We have been worried about table manners for a while : boys completely forgetting them in a sort of pack mentality but others not seeming to know how to use a knife and fork properly. I know that we lead very busy lives today between work and boys' activities, so families are not eating or sitting around a table as much as they used to. But please do try to ensure that you do so at least once a week not just for the fellowship but also to ensure that our boys are properly trained as how to sit when eating, asking for items to be passed, holding and using knives and forks properly, not eating with their mouths full, etc. We will certainly do what we can at school.

Good luck to our U13A hockey side who compete in the Top Schools Tournament at Hartleyvale today. The rugby season ends with Inter-House Rugby tomorrow morning. In the meantime the boys have started afternoon soccer and are having a great time.

All the best

Kind regards

Request from our School Secretary

Due to the renovations and the fact that we have no intercom, it is difficult to deliver messages, lunches and forgotten items, especially sports kit. Please could you take time each evening with your son(s) to plan and set specific arrangements for the next day in place, and in this way try to get them to take more responsibility.

Many thanks for your understanding.
