FRIDAY 3 September 2021
Dear Parents

COVID UPDATE
Since last week we have had three boys test positive for Covid at the Prep, with none at the Pre-Prep. There have been four new cases at the College. Overall, a significant drop in cases across the school.

A number of our Matrics who have turned eighteen have already been vaccinated and it appears that the Western Cape Education Department is encouraging eighteen year old Matric pupils to vaccinate as soon as possible.

On the issue of vaccinations I quote from the Principal’s newsletter last week. “As a school we do support vaccinations as a means of protecting ourselves and our communities and allowing a quicker return to the new life we want to live. I cannot encourage parents enough to vaccinate. While it remains a personal choice, all the evidence I have read and advice I have been given points towards vaccinations as the safest way of getting us through this pandemic. The Bishops influence is extensive and we have the opportunity to use this influence, all of us, to get as much of our community vaccinated as possible.”

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION AGM
A reminder that the online PA AGM has been postponed to next Thursday, 9 September 2021 at 18h30. I am very grateful to our IT Department who, at very short notice, managed to source and test a new online voting system which is a lot more fit for purpose that what we used previously. I know that Sharon Johnson distributed the re-vote via email. Please do cast your vote as well as attend next Thursday’s online AGM. It is a chance to hear from the outgoing Committee and I have also been asked to provide feedback on the school and Covid as well as progress in our transformation process.

SPORT NEWS
It has been wonderful to resume inter-school fixtures; hockey, chess this Friday and rugby on Saturday. There is a lot of excitement (boys and staff) about our first rugby match since August 2019. Unfortunately spectators are still not allowed. I have written to our neighbours to inform them about Saturday, so please do be mindful of them and their driveways as you drop off and collect. With drop off and collection around the hour, every hour, there is bound to be quite a bit of congestion so I ask you to please be patient even if it is a bit frustrating.

I wish you all a good weekend. With the official advent of spring this past Wednesday, we hope for the warmer weather, but it does look like we have to wait a little longer. Hopefully it will clear for Saturday.

Kind regards

Art Department request

Thank you to the Moms who have volunteered to help with picture mounting so far! (Daniela Wakeford, Nici Brits, Helen Harvey, Shelley Whiffler, Alex Bestel, Emma Townshend, Zanne Horrell, Natalie Ridl, Victoria de la Cour and Elizabeth Turnley-Jones) We have made good progress.

This is a reminder that I will continue to work on framing until the end of term (three weeks to go). I would like to frame as much of the boy's art as possible. If you are free and willing to help during the school day, please let me know. (The process works well when two or more people are working together and forming a factory line of cutting, measuring and sticking!) Alternatively, I can also send prepared packs of art home for sticking while watching TV!

Please email sjohns@bishops.org.za if you are able to assist.

Thank you so much for your support of the Art!

Grade 3 Egg Drop Challenge

Mrs Booysen did a fun practical lesson with the Grade 3S class where the boys created a protective case to cushion their egg during a fall. Many clever ideas were used!
Grade 3 Assembly
In the Grade 3 assembly this week, Father Monwabisi addressed the boys about how we have armour to protect ourselves and getting along with and looking out for each other. Some boys were awarded Mitres. Well done to them.
Grade 3 Science
Some budding scientists presented their experiments in Grade 3.

Reading is alive and well at the Prep!

This sight warmed our hearts on a cold Friday morning.
