Dear Parents
Today we observed Remembrance Day with a special Service to remember all those Bishops men who have died in wars around the world. The College held their Service yesterday where Guy Pearson and the College Head Boy laid a wreath at the Honour Roll outside the Memorial Chapel while the Last Post was played. In both Services we honour those who lost their lives so young and also pray for peace, acknowledging that war is a terrible thing which so seldom solves the real issues of the world.
I used the opportunity too to pay tribute to Christian Rohrer, last year’s College Head Boy, who passed away in the late afternoon this Monday after a two year battle with cancer. This young man is a credit to his family and his school. Christian went right through Bishops from Grade R making lifelong friends who supported him so faithfully through his illness. He played a number of 1st team sports at Prep, was Head of House and his peers awarded him the Fellowship Cup for the year. Undergoing extensive treatment during the course of his Matric year, he attended school as often as he could, continued with his Head Boy duties and still achieved a number of distinctions in his final exams. He delivered a superb speech at the College Prizegiving last year where he reflected on his journey and the support he had received. He said that after he was diagnosed, “I challenged myself to use my circumstances to set an example for other people dealing with tough situations.”
Sadly, his cancer returned this year and it became increasingly unmanageable. Throughout he remained an inspiration to all; courageous, stoic and a pillar of strength for those around him. We are so proud of the man he grew into and deeply mourn his passing. Our hearts go out to his family, Wendy, Stefan and Xandi, their extended family and all his friends and we hold them in our prayers and thoughts.
May he rest in peace.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN
