FRIDAY 16 October 2020
Dear Parents

I have already written to you three times this week on Covid related matters, so this will not be a long letter. We are all very sorry that we have had to cancel sport this Saturday. Last week’s Super Saturday went very well and the boys loved it. Hopefully this latest spike in the area dies down and we certainly don’t want to add to the transmission in any way.

We are however, trying to maintain as many of the special events with which we end the year. While camps and Prizegiving have had to be cancelled, we are planning some special events for the Grade 7s about which I will inform parents in the next few days. We will still have a championship gala, athletics trials, go-kart races and Bishops Got Talent and hopefully a few outings in place of the camps in the last week. Special arrangements will be made for each of these.

A highlight for the end of the year is always our Carol Service which is not possible this year. However, we will have a remote Carol Service for the first time, involving boys from the Pre-Prep, Prep and College, which is set to be sent out to the full Bishops community on the last evening of the term.

It’s difficult to replace a live physical event, but, as with Guy Pearson’s farewell, any member of our community, anywhere in the world will be able to watch and enjoy a whole school Carol Service at the same time.

May you have a great weekend.

Kind regards

GREG BROWN

For Grade 7 Parents

Bishops College Rowing invitation:

All Grade 7 boys welcome to join this Sunday. This weekend the session will be at 8am at Zeekoeivlei Yacht club on Sunday. The Bishops rowing shed is located there, from which Georgie Sabio will predominantly be taking the session. She will explain the different parts of a boat and we will then manage a basic lesson in the boat itself. The type of boat will be dependent on how many boys can attend the session.

If interested parents can let us know if they are coming this Sunday – this assists with planning
• BRADLEY SMITH (HEAD COACH FOR ROWING AT BISHOPS COLLEGE) 071 362 6695
• GEORGIE SABIO (COACH FOR UNDER 14s) 083 287 1918

NEWS
Super Saturday Success
Our first Super Saturday was a great success, thoroughly enjoyed by boys, staff and coaches. Well done to all involved!
Art Club News
The French artist, Henri Matisse made his famous cut-outs by 'drawing with scissors.' The Grade 4 Art Club boys are doing the same! They are creating a jungle picture by using paper, glue and scissors. Thank you to Mrs Hamman who is helping with Grade 3 and 4 Art Club on Thursdays. Because of the enthusiastic response of almost 40 boys, we have split the group into two venues to comply with COVID social distancing protocols.
Art News
The Grade 6s are learning to observe accurately by drawing shoes from different angles. They need to really look carefully to draw what they “see” and not what they “think” they see. So great to see such talent and creativity. Well done boys!
