FRIDAY 18 September 2020
Dear Parents

TRANSFORMATION
You will have received the email from the Principal yesterday announcing the appointment of the chosen Transformation Facilitator, Lele Mehlomakulu of mPower People Solutions. We look forward to this stage of our transformation process and I encourage you to participate in the process which, as you can see from Tony Reeler’s email, will be a comprehensive and thorough one.

WELL DONE, BOYS
I remain very proud of our boys, wearing their masks studiously and sanitising their hands regularly – everybody said boys could not do it and I had my concerns too – but they surprised us! Social distancing outside of the classroom was more difficult as it is human nature to move closer to each other as we speak but one word or gesture from a teacher and they moved apart. As I told them today, we will have to continue being careful next term and follow all the protocols.

THANK YOU, STAFF
I want to thank staff, teachers and secretaries, cleaning and maintenance, who have been here long before 07h30 to ensure everyone is screened, sanitised, etc. Everybody has had more duties and jobs to do to ensure that protocols were observed. This has been a very difficult time for everyone - we have had to do everything in different ways not ever done before, so I am grateful to staff for making it work so well.

ACADEMICS
All marks for the term are now available on myBishopsLife for Grades 4-7 boys. Grade 3 reports will have been emailed to you.

FOURTH TERM UNIFORM
As we go into summer, we will make some changes to uniform, but still keep it sports-based:
• White sports top: cricket, tennis (squad) or Phys Ed (wear the correct top depending on the afternoon sport).
• Blue shorts (with mitre)
• White short socks.
• Takkies (no luminous green, neon orange, etc, please)
• This can be worn with or without tracksuit.
• Boys may also wear khakis if they wish to

HAIRCUTS

Please ensure that your son's hair is cut by the first day of next term. Boys must remember that their hairstyle must not attract attention. There are too many boys with shaved sides and long fringes at present.

SPORT NEXT TERM
Water polo / Swimming
We have made a few adjustments to the extra mural timetable to enable water polo players, who only have one practice a week, to spend more time in the pool improving their swimming fitness. Please study the timetable again (LINK HERE) and encourage your son to make use of this opportunity. If your son would like to make use of this opportunity, please contact Mandy Gloak mgloak@bishops.org.za

Super Saturdays
These voluntary action-packed and fun mornings will take place on the following Saturdays from 08:00 – 12:00: 10 October; 17 October; 7 November. All age groups (U9-U13) will be involved. Boys will have the opportunity to play rugby related games (no full contact) and small group hockey and soccer matches. No coaching will take place on these mornings, as the emphasis will be on competition and maximum fun.

Thank you for your support this term and for trusting your boys to us. It has been a demanding experience but also a great relief to have face-to-face encounters, social contact and the repartee and fun that is so much a part of the learning experience.

I hope you can enjoy some downtime and if not, enjoy your son having a break. For those of you going away, safe travels.

Kind regards

GREG BROWN

Civvies Day Donations
Thank you letters from the recipients of your wonderful donations on Civvies Day. Thank you again, boys and parents!

At school this week.....

Our Cartoon Club boys showed off their talents once again by drawing "Dumpling, the Unicorn".

The Grade 4s built bridges from recycled materials as part of their science curriculum on strengthening structures. There are definitely some budding engineers amongst them!

The Grade 3s had their first social distancing assembly including some "elbow bumping" with Mr Brown.

The Grade 6s painted river pebbles and participated in the "Cape Town Rocks" project. This Facebook group encourages individuals to paint on a rock and hide it along a nature trail for someone to find. Once it is found it can be photographed and displayed on the FACEBOOK group for all to see.

Grade 3s racing the boats they built in Design Tech class.

Catapults, created in the Design & Tech hobby club, being tested.

Our Grade 7 "Screening Station Commanders" having a celebratory end-of-term breakfast this morning.
