Dear Parents
The boys have had a really stimulating and fun week with so many different activities, both at and out of school. And this continues through next week and includes Grade 3-6 Athletics trials while the Grade 7s are on camp.
As a snapshot:
- We had Rise for Africa here for three days where each Grade 6 class has had a day to pack dry ingredients for soup, providing one meal for four.
- The Grade 7s did a Table Mountain hike, each donating R100 to our VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy as their parting gift to the school.
- Yesterday was Grade 6 go-kart races, always a highlight, with the whole school watching. Boys are taught the design principles in Design & Technology and then build a go-kart with a team, culminating in the race. And each team designs its own t-shirt logo in Art and these are printed for the race.
- The Grade 7s Market Day followed with each grade shopping separately (allowing for social distancing). It is one day where there is quite a sugar load. Market Day is a Grade 7 entrepreneurial project that involves a business plan, marketing, procuring, selling, reconciling but not without tax; each group pays a tax to the school and a tax to charity.
Dress for Grades 3-6 next week is sports kit unless informed otherwise for any particular day. Please ensure that there are no holiday hair styles or shaving before the afternoon of the 4th. If your son wants a sign or the like shaved and you are happy with it, please wait for the holidays. If not, it leads to much unnecessary unhappiness and spoils the fun and special ending to the year.
Please remember to sign on for next week’s remote Carol Service to be screened on Wednesday evening. For the first time ever, it involves boys from across the three sections of the school, from six years old to seventeen. It is under an hour and I believe it will be a truly special event for the Bishops community.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN
