FRIDAY 31 July 2020
Dear Parents

Sadly, Mike Bromfield, our former Deputy Head who retired from the Prep at the end of 2008, passed away yesterday morning. He had been ill but his passing was nevertheless quite sudden and unexpected.

Mike made an enormous contribution as a teacher and school leader over a long career. He joined Woodridge College outside Port Elizabeth in its early years and eventually became Head. When he and his family moved to Cape Town he taught at the College for a while before becoming Director of Studies and Deputy Head at the Prep. After retirement he remained a constant friend of the school, always being available to do relief teaching and together with his wife, Heather, attending many of our celebrations and functions. He will be remembered with great affection by many staff, past and present, and the pupils who passed through his classrooms over the many years of his career.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Heather, their daughter Fiona, extended family and friends. Rest in peace, Mike.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION

Thank you to all of you who attended last night’s virtual AGM, virtually, the first. I want to thank this year’s outgoing Committee:

Ettie Chahwahwa
Delene Mark
Chantal Souter
Michelle Tuscher
Christopher Twycross
Tersia Velosa
Daniela Wakeford

It has been a pleasure for my Deputies and me to work with them. They are quick to bring issues to our attention and for discussion. They worked very hard on producing a highly successful carnival, as well as providing continued support for St Paul’s Primary and Athwood Primary. And they continued to work on social responsibility during lockdown, particularly around feeding schemes for Athwood and our VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy who fed 500 young people daily in Langa. Unfortunately, it was not possible to support the St Paul’s pupils as most do not live in the Bo-Kaap area.

The following parents were elected to the 2020/2021 PA Committee via online ballot:

Ettie Chahwahwa
Delene Mark
Advaita Naidoo
Christopher Twycross
Peter Venn
Daniela Wakeford

The Committee will meet as soon as possible to elect office bearers and they will also be entitled to co-opt a further two members if they should so wish.

We wish our Muslim families Eid Mubarak as they observe Eid al-Adha..

Kind regards

GREG BROWN
