Dear Parents

A warm welcome back to Term 3 and all that is jam packed into these next few weeks. A special welcome to Mrs Emily Venter in Grade N who has joined us for the remainder of the year and Ms Babalwa Manyela who has filled the role of our secretary at the Pre-Prep, most effectively.

Hopefully some of you would have noticed that we have been hard at work, upgrading our foyer into a welcoming reception area during the holidays.  This has freed up some much needed teacher work space as well as adding a more personal entrance to our beautiful school.

Thank you to those parents who have ensured that their boys have had neat haircuts for school. Please be reminded that fashion cuts or gelled styles are not permitted.

With the upcoming production of Aristocats, we are aware that this is a bit of a disruption for some boys but the learning opportunities that they gain from this is immense.  Please be patient with the process thank you for your understanding.

This term, our wish is that we enable each little boy's eyes to shine, provide many opportunities for deep belly laughs and build strength, courage and grit to meet each and every challenge that they may encounter. Wishing you a fabulous week ahead.

Kind regards

Chapel

Mandela Day - 18 July

This year, the Pre-Prep will be supporting Mandela Day with the following initiatives:

Grade N and R are collecting gently worn children’s shoes. We plan to form a long line, representing the big shoes the wonderful Mr Mandela left to fill and his long walk to freedom. This ties in nicely with the Grade R theme, South Africa.

Grade 1 boys are making aromatherapy dough and Grade 2 boys are making stress balls which form part of Calming Kits for classrooms to donate to an organisation called Learning in Reach. They are currently training 30 pre-schools to be trauma-informed schools in the Cape Flats. This trauma has a profound effect on the developing brain of a young child. They are aiming to create calming corners in classrooms where children can self-regulate if they are feeling overwhelmed.

GENERAL INFO
Sport

All extra mural (before and after school) activities will begin next week.  Please locate any kit that may be needed for these practices and if there is any change of sport, please contact the teacher concerned.  Grade N chess will be boys from Mrs Green's class this term. Please check the timetable on our website or contact Mrs Anstey with any queries canstey@bishops.org.za The first cross country race, however, will start this week and information about this has been sent out.  Please diarise the date for the end of term Tag Tournament and family braai/picnic.  This is a wonderful event for parents and children to relax and have fun. We look forward to seeing as many families as possible there.
Caution

We remind parents please to be cautious when dropping off and picking up boys. Car jamming is often prevalent outside schools and one can never be too careful. We ask that you make sure that your car is actually locking and that no bags, laptops or phones are left visable, ether on the seats or elsewhere in the car.
Pizza

The new pizza order letter will go out on Monday.  We are going to use a new format this term, allowing you to fill in your order online and then for this amount to be debited to your school account.  Please keep an eye out for the letter and complete the reply as soon as you can, to facilitate your order being delivered.
