Dear Parents

We are excited to be back to journey with you through this wonderful, exciting time of your son's lives.  Having spent some time overseas this holiday, I have come to realise how immensely blessed we are to have these amazing facilities in which to educate our children. Space to run and climb, opportunities to be outdoors and to enjoy the wonderful long days and not have to spend most of it at school. In order to make this space one that is conducive to learning, it takes more than just a teaching staff and some administrators. It takes parents to be involved and to help make it the best it can be.

We would like to be a forward-thinking school, a trendsetter and one that delivers a thorough and well-structured programme. This all takes time and is sometimes quite difficult but with help from our parents, we are able to raise the bar and make Bishops the amazing school that it is.  If you are one of those parents who would like to become involved albeit in a very small or big way, please come along to our "How can I get involved" Coffee Connection morning on Friday 31 January in the Library @ 7.30am.  Here we will chat around finding something that interests you as there are many opportunities for you to assist this busy, vibrant little school, from covering library books, delivering sandwiches, packing food hampers, collecting and delivering our charity collections or simply helping to serve pizza or decorating the school for special occasions.  No job is too big or too small, we welcome your input immensely.

Class Teacher/Parent meetings take place this week. We would like to remind parents that as a school we are not permitted to distribute any personal information from parents.  We therefore cannot supply you with a class list of numbers or email addresses or any such information.  The Protection of Personal information act prohibits us from doing this. We thank you for your understanding and respect in this regard.

We wished Ms Ntsomi (Grade N) a very happy 'special' birthday on Thursday 16th and trust she had a lovely day. It is Mrs Meredith's birthday on 26 January and we trust that she also has a special day planned.

Kind regards

TAKE NOTE
Sport
You can find a sports time table on our website for your reference. Please be reminded that for private extra murals you would need to contact the service providers - information about sign up is under sport, under each specific sport. If you are unsure, please ask at the parent meetings on Monday night. Grade R, 1 and 2 boys were sent a sign up document where they could indicate their sport choices.  Thank you to those who have filled them in, your son's name will appear on that register, ready for the week.  Afternoon sport starts on Monday 20 January so please ensure that your son has the necessary kit - as mentioned Grade R simply play in their shorts and golf shirt (with white takkies and socks for cricket) For any further sport related queries, please contact Mrs Anstey at canstey@bishops.org.za
Loving Maths
This little group runs in the mornings before school and is for Grade 2 boys.  Next week, Mr Sherman will come and do a demonstration lesson with the Grade 2 boys and they can then have an idea weather they would be interested in joining this group. Information on how to sign up is online on our website as well.

Welcome

We welcome Mrs Liz Daames (Grade 2) to our teaching team and Ms Lundi Krewu (Grade N assistant). Two new interns, Mrs Booysen and Mrs Samsoodien have joined us as well and we look forward to watching them develop into fabulous teachers.

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
Message from Our Youth Pastor

Good day and welcome back to a fresh new year at Bishops Prep. This has been one exciting week for us as we welcomed new learners and those who have been journeying with us previously. There something special about the start of a new school year. Our reflection and reading speaks of us being a light.

Scripture:  Isaiah 49:1-6 make mention that God want to make us a light to the world

The theme of going from darkness into light is a common metaphor the used to speak to God’s people. It is about opposites: light vs. dark; insight vs. ignorance; listening to God vs. not listening; following God vs. waywardness.  God’s love is always there to direct us into the light of Christ by giving us guidelines on how to treat others and of place in the world.

It is my prayer that 2020 would be a year that the boys grow into exceptional people who know how to engage, treat and love. Who themselves are a light to one another, their family and within society.

May 202 be a year of LIGHT

GENERAL INFO
Name labels
A gentle reminder that all items need to be clearly labelled.  Lunch boxes, water bottles, each item of clothing and sports equipment (tennis rackets and other items). We seem to have an enormous collection of unmarked clothing each week and would really love to be able to return the items to their rightful owners.
Uniforms
Or school has a particular uniform and we ask that other items are not added or worn.  We expect boys to wear shoes to and from school each day (they may be removed during the day in Summer) but alternate shoes, jackets, jerseys and other items not on our uniform list, are not to be worn.  Hats are not optional and need to be worn when the boys are outside, winter or summer.
Face Book
We have a facebook page that you are invited to join - Bishops Prep and Pre-Prep.  It is carefully monitored and we often publish news and information that you may find interesting.
