Dear Parents

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”Nelson Mandela

As we reflect on on the life of a man who changed the path of so many, one cannot but be impacted by the journey of Nelson Mandela. On Thursday, 18 July, we contributed our 67 minutes in various ways.Thank you to the boys who donated gently worn shoes in Grade N and R.  These were displayed in various ways today, making pairs, counting, making the longest line, estimating, all with an element of learning. We are so grateful to all those that contributed to this collection and we will update you as to where they are delivered.

Our Grade 1 and 2 boys gave their time, making stress balls and scented play dough to be donated to others, as a comfort in times of extreme anxiety.  It was an opportunity to open conversations around those who are troubled and live in an environment of insecurity and fear.

Attached to this newsletter is a report from our Vusa Academy – the programme that operates out of Langa, providing 120 boys with rugby coaching, Maths, English and Life Skills. Please do read it – it is an amazing programme very generously supported by a number of our parents as well as external donors.

We trust that you found an opportunity to spend 67 minutes in a productive, meaningful way.

Kind regards

SHARLENE GROOM

DIARY DATES

Due to the predicted bad weather, the Grade 1 outing to Vredenheim on Tuesday has been rescheduled to 18 September. Please adjust your diary.
Saturday 20 July Grade 1 and 2 tag rugby

Should you wish to join in the games please come along at 8 - 9 am. Mrs Nolte will be there to meet you.
TAKE NOTE

Sport

A reminder that we do not cancel any sport because of rain etc.  We will supervise children in classrooms or other venues should there be a problem and will conduct some theory on the particular sport or discuss sportmanship and appropriate other issues.

Sandwiches

We are still supporting Athwood Primary with sandwiches on a Tuesday morning. Some classes are making their own sandwiches but if not, please feel free to make some extra ones and drop them off in the foyer. This is often the only thing some of the children eat during the day, so your contribution is very welcome. Should you be interested in joining the group of parents who kindly deliver every week, please contact Ms Manyela - bmanyela@bishops.org.za so that she can connect you with the organiser.
End of Term 3
Please note that due to the Cricket Festival being hosted at Bishops, school will officially close on THURSDAY 19 SEPTEMBER. We will not close early, normal school hours apply.

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP

Everyone is invited to pray as a group of parents for our boys, the staff, our school and our community on Tuesday mornings from 7:30am in the Woodlands Pavilion; it is a relaxed and informal time together where you can come and go as you wish, as we strengthen relationships over tea and coffee, and gather around an important area of life. You are welcome to contact Julie Lunn if you have any questions on 0828895597.

GENERAL INFO
Aristocats

Rehearsals are in full swing, costumes are being sewn and make up meetings are happening.  Please be reminded that this involves four evenings of the show in the theatre for each Grade 1 and 2 boy, so please make arrangements for fetching and dropping off boys on all four nights. We do understand that this takes a huge effort from everyone involved, so we thank you in advance for your understanding. We assure you it will be an event to remember!
Pizza Orders

Thank you to all those that have completed and submitted their pizza orders.  You would have noticed that we have done these online and without any cash being dropped off.  Please ensure you get your order in if you wish to have pizza on the 26 July!
Readathon

After the show, Aristocats, we head into our Readathon week (28 August - 3 September).  We will be exploring the writings of Dr Seuss and celebrating the fun and laughter he brings through his stories. We have a wonderful programme planned so look out for the details to follow closer to the time. Should you wish to be involved with making a few posters, signs and designing a photo booth, decorating and setting up the theme throughout the Pre-prep on Tuesday 27 August, please email Mrs Wallace for further information kwallace@bishops.org.za  We would appreciate any help that you can offer.
