Dear Parents

This week the Grade 2’s had a visit from a Chiropractor who came to talk to them about movement and body brain connection.

He shared with us that there are large amounts of research that show after exercise or any type of movement, children learn so much better.

We all have talked about our boys being ‘busy’ and witnessed first-hand that they love to move.

The brain and body work together as a machine, one designed to move through space efficiently, walking, moving and maintaining balance. Movement supplies brain cells with oxygen, promotes the production of new brain cells and aids in creating new synapses. As a result of multiple research studies, schools now understand that children all learn better, behave better, and are socially more successful when the learners have physical activity and movement breaks throughout the school day.

At Bishops, we are committed to making sure that the boys have regular movement breaks throughout the day.

As we approach the end of the year with holidays around the corner, I encourage you to make sure that your children remain active and ‘moving’ through the holiday season.

Here are 5 tips for encouraging movement:

  • Be a role model. If your children see you being active regularly, they'll be far more inclined to be that way themselves
  • Explain the importance of both mind and body exercise (growth mindset too)
  • Encourage outdoor play when friends come over
  • Give your children active household chores
  • Limit 'screen time'

Wishing you all a happy weekend ahead.

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
A message from Mr Jeremy Smith

Consciously or unconsciously we are directed and informed daily by an array of signs across our city. We navigate the streets, and highways as we pass through work/school spaces following important signs. The Bible mentions a few signs but there's none greater that the sign of the Christ the Saviour.

The sign would be a child. This is an amazing notion as we reflect on the words of the prophet Isaiah and find its fulfilment in the birth of Jesus. Before Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied of His birth. Isaiah lived 700 years before Christ. He wrote, “For unto us a child is born…" (Isaiah 9:6-7) and the angels in Luke's gospel announces the fulfilment of this sign (Luke 2:12). Isaiah draws our attention to a sign and promise of a Saviour. Many centuries passed but this sign of Jesus' birth was not forgotten.

This week the boys would have discovered that Christ came to bring peace to all of humanity as announced to the shepherds by the angels. We spoke of places where violence exists and what peace on earth would look like.

  •  How we can participate in bringing peace to earth.

Prayer: Living God, deliver us from a world without justice and a future without mercy; in your mercy, establish justice, and in your justice, remember the mercy revealed to us in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
