Dear Parents

This week we have had loads of excitement.  The Grade 1 boys had a visit from the Petting Zoo where they were able to visit the animals and experience life "on the farm", grade 2 boys had an adventorous outing to the Newlands Forest and the Grade N mini olympics has been in full swing all morning. Grade r learnt all about Up Into Space we go! They learnt about rockets, astronauts, the first South African astronaut and about life aboard a space shuttle..

Every year, in August, our country marks Women’s Month. We also pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.

SA will celebrate this year’s Women's Month under the theme: “Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights for an Equal Future”.  The concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to global efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030. Wishing all women a wonderful Women's Day on Monday.

Wishing Mrs Lundi Krewu a very happy birthday for 10 August.

May you all have a wonderful long weekend of sunshine and fun.

Kind regards

TAKE NOTE
Well done boys!

We are incredibly proud of our Grade 2 boys who have participated in the Live Mathletics Games challenge over the past 2 weeks.

They have been working hard at their mental maths skills and we have seen these fantastic results through all the points they have scored.

A big well done to Mrs Fraser’s class who ranked 125th in the world for this competition (with only one other school in Cape Town ranking close by). What an achievement!

GENERAL INFO

Covid Update

We have many families isolating at the moment and even some teachers have had to isolate after being in contact with someone who is Covid +. At this stage we have 2 boys who have tested positive but our teachers have returned after their isolation time with no infections.  We wish all those who are struggling with this virus, our heartfelt love and prayers for a quick recovery.  We continue to strive to keep both our staff and boys safe.  Please be reminded of the protocols and the declaration undertaken not to send boys to school with any symptoms. If your son is under doctors treatment for allergies, please would you indicate this to the teacher.

We are aware that numbers are still high in the Western Cape and we are not yet over the third wave, so we have to still be very careful. As a school we continue with screening, sanitising, social distancing and mask wearing. But we are concerned that outside school the situation is too relaxed. Please support us all by ensuring:

  • no sleepovers;
  • masks to be worn in cars where there are groups of boys;
  • no large parties;
  • boys get togethers are limited to outside activities;
  • if your son displays any cold / flu-like symptoms or has an upset stomach or nausea, that you keep him at home.
HIGHLIGHTS

Storytelling

On Tuesday 3 August Gilly Southwood entertained our Grade 2 boys with exciting stories about how the lion got his roar, a hen going on safari and a king who found a princess.

Busy Grade 1 Boys

The Grade 1 boys are currently learning about farm animals. We were lucky enough to have some Farm animals visits us at school this week and we had a tractor ride.

Our book of the week is The 3 Billy Goats Gruff, and the boys spent some time designing bridges using 'Planx' to help the 3 Billy Goats cross the river.

Physical Literacy Programme
Being out and about at school is just the best. Grade N boys loving the Physical literacy programme presented by our amazing team of Biokinetic Students.

Tins Galore

Thank you to all those who so generously sent tins for our collection.  We managed 65.5m of tins which is really close to 67m!  The boys had loads of fun counting, measuring, packing, etc.  Our tins, in collaboration with Women’s Day, will go to the Women’s Shelter Movement in Woodstock and Sister’s Incorporated.

Grade 2F Shelter Building Outing

Grade 2F enjoyed a stunning outing in Newlands Forest this morning. They were taught how to make shelters that would weather storms and rain as well as some key survival tips. What a lovely morning of fresh air and team building!
