Dear Parents
What an exciting week it has been as we launched the Klikd Digital Citizenship programme, with an inspiring educator training workshop, and two parent talks delivered by Pam Tudin, (psychologist) and Sarah Hoffman (social media lawyer). It was lovely to see such a fantastic attendance by parents and I thank you for your positive feedback.
The first talk tackled all the hard-to-answer questions – when to give a child a tablet/phone, how much time is enough time, and most importantly how to avoid the power struggle that comes with all things social media.
In the Grade 4 – 7 parent talk, Pam offered a positive approach to parenting in the digital age and highlighted the four C’s when it comes to ensuring that the digital world leaves our children not just safe, but also happy and responsible online:
- understanding the tween CONTEXT,
- building CONNECTION,
- ensuring effective CONTROLS and
- ultimately building CYBER EQ will be the path that leads to all-round healthy young digital citizens.
For those who missed the talks, Bishops parents have been offered an easy-to-download talk of the nuggets (and a whole lot more) gleaned over both nights. We encourage all parents to make use of this wonderful offer. Use the code BISHOPS on checkout to receive a 25% discount. Sign up here at: https://klikd.co.za/mini-workshop/
Next week we will be sending out further information regarding:
- the interactive Klikd App and Digital Citizenship curriculum that the boys in Grade 4 – 7 will be covering in Life Orientation.
- the Parent Conversation Starters Guide to facilitate ongoing conversations. “After all, this isn’t just one “chat” – it’s 100’s of chats all the time”.
- the Bishops Parents Klikd in your Pocket WhatsApp group, an opt-in broadcast only group, where Pam and Sarah will share updates around the boys’ online world as well as some current important cyber safety issues.
Thank you for partnering with us as we grow the relationships we need to sustain a healthy and lifelong digital citizenship journey with our boys.
Kind regards
KAREN DALLAS
