Dear Parents

Last night we enjoyed a superb Pre-Prep Carol Service in the Memorial Chapel, narrated entirely by the boys. It was probably the best Carol singing I have heard from the Grade 1s and 2s; enthusiastic, committed and truly roof-raising. This service always signals that holidays are approaching and all the festivities that come with them.

Our Carol Service takes place this Tuesday. We have divided the school along House lines as we have done in the past and there will be two services on the same evening. We do this so that every family can attend, together with any grandparents and siblings, the more the merrier.  This is always a wonderful service heralding, as it does, the joy and peace of the coming Christmas. Please note that every boy must attend – details of times, etc appear further on.

From next week we close at 13h30 each day (Friday 13h20) and run a different programme – a very varied range of activities, outings and presentations. Please check the schedule for your son’s class carefully.

We look forward to seeing you at the many events over the next fortnight.

Market Day - bring some spending money!

On Monday 28 November the Grade 7 boys will be running their Market Day stalls during the school morning. The Grade 3 to Grade 6 boys are encouraged to support this business initiative by bringing their spending money to school.
Extra-Murals

Please note that all extra-murals except for Junior (U10 & U11) and Senior (U12 & U13) Inter-house cricket are now finished for the year.
Second Hand Shop Opening Hours

The Second Hand Shop will close on Thursday 8 December and will reopen on Monday 16 January and Tuesday 17th January from 10h00 to 12h00.

Thereafter normal opening hours will apply viz:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 07h30 to 08h30

Thanks to all your Silly Socks Civvies Day contributions, we have been able to supply each Athwood student from Grade R to 7 with stationery for 2023. These small amounts go such a long way, thank you!

Cricket News
The Under 13A team played against SACS in the Southern Suburbs T20 final at the Frank Reid on Tuesday. They won the match by 3 runs. Well done on finishing the season with this fantastic performance.
Weekly Cricket Awards
The Herschelle Gibbs Fielding Award was awarded to Travis Williams for taking a sharp catch low down, crucial in the context of the game. The Vince van der Bijl Bowling Award went to Nirvaan Naidu for taking 4 wickets for 9 runs in a match winning performance. The Jonathan Bird Batting Award was awarded to Tommy Tanfield for scoring 65 runs not out in a very mature knock to help his team. Well done, boys!
Grade 4 News
The Grade 4s made water filtration systems in Science class. They put muddy water through their filters and some of them clearly had a lot of faith in their filtration systems and were brave enough to taste test their products! Please visit our Facebook page for more photos.
