Dear Parents
Ensemble Concert
Tuesday night saw the Music Department celebrating all the Ensembles. Mark Mitchell, our Director of Music, introduced the evening and he spoke particularly about the important role that ensemble work plays in the lives of all developing musicians.
The choir has had yet another concert opportunity to perform which was so exciting and spirit-building. We again thank Sandee Clapperton, Anro Arendse and Mark Mitchell for all their hard work.
The string ensembles shone brightly. We were impressed by the 4 different grade ensembles and a lovely programme of 2 works offered by each ensemble. Congratulations to all and especially Camilla Driver, Shannon Cook, Cheryl de Havilland and Barbara Kennedy for their dedication and hard work.
The Wind Band ably directed by Sandee Clapperton performed with great aplomb. The boys clearly love the pieces and their programme was warmly received by the audience. It was wonderful to be able to perform “How to Train your Dragon” again indoors, and the boys did themselves proud with this number.
Our final ensemble was the Marimba Band with Tina Sheard directing and introducing their programme with her usual enthusiasm and panache. The boys played with exuberance and the second item, Masithi Amen, was enjoyed by all as the audience participated in singing along.
Mr Brown, our Headmaster, closed the concert with heartwarming words congratulating all the participants. He also reminded the boys to thank their parents for the opportunity to study an instrument at the Prep.
Grade 2 and 3 Play Date
Our Grade 3 boys have all been assigned a Grade 2 Buddy and they have sent them letters telling them all about Prep. Yesterday the Grade 2 boys and their teachers came to visit our Grade 3s for a play date. They each paired up with their buddy and got to stroll around the campus and the fields while getting to know their new buddy. They also got to play on the field and have some fun with the Grade 2 boys. We will be doing another play date in Term 4. The Grade 2 boys will be replying to the Grade 3s and sending them a letter now that they know a bit more about Prep. The aim is to form lasting relationships and ease any worry about their next adventure to the Prep campus.
Sport Performance and Wellness Testing
This week the SPW department were at the Prep to test our boys’ fitness. They were put through their paces that tested: speed, agility, core strength, flexibility and endurance. These results will be used to design programmes that our PE teachers and coaches can use to condition our young men for the rigour of our summer and winter sports programme.
U13 Western Province Boys’ Top Schools Tournament
Our U13A hockey team, coached by Penny Graney, have been hard at work this week preparing for this prestigious event. It would be wonderful, if you are able to, for you to come and support our U13A hockey boys at the Top Schools Tournament to be held on Friday at WPCC. I have attached the programme under TAKE note for you to see when we are playing in the pool stages. You are also able to follow the games using the Sportivo App (info on the programme) and SuperSport will also be live streaming the games.
Cross- country
Fifty runners will be participating in the SACS Pentagular Cross-country event at SACS Junior this afternoon. Naadia Luzmore has worked tirelessly to prepare these boys and we wish them all the best as they compete against SACS, Wetpups, Wynberg and Rondebosch.
Soccer
The boys have had a full week of fixtures against Wetpups and Wynberg. We are very proud of the way our boys played and look forward to our final fixture against VUSA on Monday 26 September. A big thank you to Xolani Mathyeke for driving our soccer programme this term.
Kind regards
CHRIS GROOM
DEPUTY HEADMASTER
