Dear Parents
This morning we held a special Heritage Day assembly to recognise and celebrate the rich and diverse heritage and cultural wealth that we have in our beautiful country.
The boys opened the assembly with the heartfelt singing of Masithi Amen, a traditional hymn of praise.
Then it was time for much laughter and learning as the boys took part in a live game of Kahoot entitled "What makes South Africa so special". The boys shared their insights and lived experiences of the different cultures and traditional celebrations of South African food, languages, sports and heritage sites to name but a few. They scored a brilliant 100%.
Thereafter it was time for the panel of Mr Turner, Mrs Kerven, Mr Louw, Mr Siko and Mr Ngcobo to share their stories and personal experiences of what life was like for them growing up as a young boy or girl in their respective communities. They shared enlightening stories of love and belonging within their families and communities, of special festivals they took part in, of the favourite foods they so loved to eat and the afternoon activities they enjoyed playing.
We all took a moment of silence to reflect on why we are so truly proud to be South Africans and together we ended the assembly with the Prayer for Africa and the singing of the National Anthem.
Heritage Day is a time to appreciate our heritage and to learn from each other, to create a true sense of belonging – to share stories that connect and unite us as the beautiful Rainbow Nation of South Africa.
May you and your family have a blessed Heritage Day tomorrow.
Kind regards
KAREN DALLAS
