Dear Parents
The Bishops-Rondebosch Derby Week marks the end, in large part, of our winter programme. From Monday (28 August), rugby, squash, chess, cross country and hockey practices and fixtures end as do our clubs. We go over to a five week soccer programme in which all boys are expected to participate – there will be two to three days of soccer each week. The link to the timetable is under Take Note below. There will be fixtures against four schools/clubs as well as intra-class soccer matches and inter-house. The boys always thoroughly enjoy our short soccer season.
There will though, be small groups of boys involved in Rugby Sevens Tournaments next week and we host our annual U12 Day/Night Hockey Tournament on the Woodlands Astro next Friday evening. I am also very happy to report that our U13A hockey side has made it through to the Top Schools Tournament in mid-September.
While our sports programme simplifies to soccer only for most boys, many music pupils will be preparing for their ABRSM exams and the cast of “Lord of the Flies” will be going through their final paces for their performances starting on 20 September.
Our hockey teams have had good results against Rondebosch this week and I wish our rugby teams well for their Saturday fixtures. The College First XV game is always a highlight of this Derby, so we are encouraging as many Prep boys as possible to attend. The game is at 14h00 on Saturday.
Best wishes
Kind regards
GREG BROWN

Brooke House Thank You
"We are blessed to have such fun, crazy and incredibly generous families in Brooke. We raised some serious funds for our charity Zonnebloem House aided by an anonymous donation of R60K from one of our Knights. We will be meeting with Zonnebloem House to decide the best way to utilise these funds. A huge thank you to all our families who were involved in the evening." Gareth Jordan (Housemaster)

Rick the Bear was awarded to theU12C team for showing great determination and enthusiasm in their game on Friday. Well done to them!
The College 1st XV and the Prep U13A team had a lunch on Friday before the SACS derby. Some knowledge was shared, motivation was on offer and it was a trip down memory lane for many of the College 1st XV boys. All in all, a lovely occasion!
We encourage all Prep boys to watch the U13 rugby matches as their play their last games for the Prep at Rondebosch on Saturday. The U13A game is at 10h00 and it would be fantastic if all boys would sit together and support. |

Artists of the week: The following Grade 5 boys were chosen as Artists of the week for their imaginative drawings of treehouses. They had to decide whether to add colour to their picture or whether to leave it in black coke, so each art work is completed differently and individually. Please click HERE to view all the artwork.

Grade 3 News |

The Grade 3s are learning about scientists and experiments. They each get a chance to present an experiment of their choosing. Boys have showed us exploding coke with mentos, steel wool fire from a battery, rockets from baking soda and vinegar as well as oobleck (a suspension of cornstarch and water). There are many more to come! Grade 3 science is fun! Please visit our Instagram page for some videos. |
