Dear Parents

ENSEMBLES CONCERT
Last Wednesday evening saw a wonderful concert in the Memorial Chapel with every ensemble performing: Strings, (Junior and Senior), Choir, Brass, Marimbas and Wind Band. With the Chapel full, the acoustics were superb and really lifted the beautiful music. I am always amazed that each year, as our senior players leave, when we wonder how the ensemble will do or manage going forward, somehow the gaps are always filled, differently, but the ensemble goes on to achieve new heights again. The very precise teamwork, concentration and timing required in a performing group give the boys involved such good skills for any other team, as well as long term life skills.

GRADE 7 KZN TOUR
The grade 7 parents will already know that we have stopped this tour due to go to KZN from 3-10 June, involving activities and fixtures in both Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This was based on concerns around potential disruption in KZN after the elections, with reports of KZN being a potential “hotspot”. While we hope everything will proceed peacefully, we took the very cautious route, putting the safety of our boys and teachers first. But, a great disappointment for our boys, for whom this is a highlight of their year.

LUTGENSVALE
We have for many years allowed those who live close to Lutgensvale to purchase a key on an annual basis to have access to the grounds for their children to play there, walk the dogs, etc. However, we have had increasing complaints about dogs not being on leads as per our regulations for usage, leading to some difficult moments, for other pets and children. We cannot police it so we are observing the situation to see if there is more compliance and consideration for others from some of the dog walkers. If there is not a change, we will have to consider options. Hopefully though, dog owners will be able to influence each other for a positive outcome.

Good wishes for the weekend. This weekend is the bi-annual Bish/Bosch sports derby. Our rugby games will finish early at Rondebosch to allow our boys and their families to get across to the College First XV game on the Piley Rees at 12h15.

Kind regards
