Dear Parents
WELCOME BACK
Welcome back to the 4th term. May it be a stimulating and fruitful one for all our boys. They arrived on the first day clearly refreshed and excited to be with their friends again. As much as they might report otherwise, we generally see boys very happy to be at school enjoying the routine and the activities.
There were also a number of school events during the holidays. We hosted our 175 Bishops Cricket Festival for twelve schools, local and from the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal. It involved our full staff complement and I am grateful to them for their enthusiastic involvement both before and during the three-day festival. We have received many compliments from the participating schools and it was certainly a highly enjoyable and successful event. It was a very special way to celebrate our 175th year with other schools, representing many different communities from within the State and independent school sectors. Cricket is, in all probability, the longest played sport at our boys’ schools and the first contests between our schools would have been on the cricket field. Our fellow schools - greatly evolved over time – have challenged and enriched us for over a century and have helped to make us what we are today: what better way to celebrate this milestone in Bishops’ history.
A number of families, together with staff, also enjoyed a trip down the Orange River and our U13A side participated in the SACS Waterpolo Tournament in the second week of the holidays.
175 INTER HOUSE SINGING
The last time the Prep held this competition was in 2018, so we are really looking forward to Friday. Boys and House and music staff have been very busy practising and Friday should be a great celebration. Please do be sure to attend. The Mallett Centre doors will open shortly after 18h00 and the singing will start at 19h00.
Boys will do their final practice during the course of the school day on Friday. They need to wear khakis and their blazers. No iPads are to be brought to school.
Dress for the evening is No. 1s. Please assist us in ensuring that your son is properly dressed and with shoes polished.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday evening.
UNIFORM
We now move over to summer uniform. Some days might still be cold, but on those occasions boys can wear jerseys and blazers with their khakis. Please note that rain jackets are not part of the summer uniform.
Kind regards
GREG BROWN

PRESS PAUSE GO PLAY |
|
We are thrilled that South Africa is now part of a worldwide movement to shift societal norms around children’s access to smart devices and social media. SFC (Smartphone Free Child) is a global grassroots initiative that connects and empowers parents to press pause on smartphones and social media for kids, recognising that it’s too big for one family to handle on their own. Thousands of Cape Town parents have joined!
SFC is hosting two events with renowned speakers Emma Sadleir of the Digital Law Co, and Kate Farina of Be In Touch. It promises to be an informative and empowering event. You’ll leave feeling inspired, hopeful and equipped to make collective change with other parents in our community.
Join them on either 16 October at Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School or 17 October at SACS Junior School. Live streaming is also available on 17 October. You can find the full event details and book tickets here.

175 Cricket Festival |
|
On 20, 21 and 22 September, Bishops Prep hosted twelve schools from across the country for the 175 Bishops Prep Cricket Festival. The weather was kind to us and all teams played four games of cricket in fantastic spirit. Well done to Willem Louw and Jamie Southgate, organisers of the event, and all the staff, parents and boys who made it such a success! |
Orange River Family Adventure |

The Orange River family adventure did not disappoint this year. It was a fun and challenging few days with the water level being very low and the rocks coming to life. This is a trip not to be missed. The 2025 version will be advertised in the new year so keep an eye out to avoid disappointment. Thanks to our amazing families for their enthusiasm while embracing the good old outdoors. Please visit our Facebook page for more photos. |
