THURSDAY 20 February 2025
Dear Parents

I hope you enjoyed our mid-term weekend. We have had very good feedback about our camps and outings programme last week. It is always a wonderful opportunity to learn and have fun outside of the classroom, experience different adventures, connect with their classmates in a different context and see their teachers out of the normal teaching and coaching context.

DRIVING AROUND THE SCHOOL
We are appealing to all parents, divers and au pairs to ensure that their driving around the school is considerate and adheres to the traffic regulations. This includes parking, stopping and speed. Evidence shows that if a pupil is knocked over in a busy and constrained area such as is found around our school the driver is most likely to be a parent of one of the pupils of the school. Last week I received a report of a parent shouting at another driver and then racing recklessly across the pedestrian crossing in Duke Road. These are the sorts of actions that can end in tragedy so I hope we can all drive and park considerately and be patient. There are queues and there is congestion around the school, but it does clear. Please also remember that there are parking areas at the top of Duke Road and at the bottom near the station.

Grades 4 and 5 Parent Workshop

Executive functioning skills are essential for staying organized, managing time, and completing tasks. They play a key role in success at school and in later life. This talk will explore how these skills develop, why they matter, and how they help foster independence while reducing daily frustrations. Learn about common challenges your child may face and how to support them on their path to organization and success. More information to follow next week.

Condolences

It is with deep sadness that we announce to the Bishops and OD Community the passing of Mr John Brett Gardener (1930 – 2025). Mr Gardener passed away peacefully. He served Bishops in so many ways, having attended the Prep and College as a schoolboy. He was the school’s 11th Principal. Mr Gardener served Bishops with distinction, as a teacher and finally as its Principal. He was a Council member and a Vice-President of the ODU. Our condolences go to Sue, his wife, and his sons, James and Andrew, and their families
