THURSDAY 6 March 2025
Dear Parents

It was wonderful to see many of you join us at yesterday’s Ash Wednesday Service. It was very special with our Grade 7 Marimba Ensemble accompanying the singing of “Masithi Amen” (The Great Amen) and after the Imposition of Ashes, the choir provided a beautiful rendition of “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Grant us Peace). During his sermon, Father Monwabisi asked the boys what they could or would do during Lent. A Grade 4 or 5 boy responded, “be kind and forgive others”. Such a meaningful comment and an injunction to us all.

This week is Founders Week in which the ODU holds its AGM and Dinner. On Friday we will hold a special assembly to honour our founders, including the church, boys, staff, ODs and parents, who have over 176 years contributed to what we enjoy today, not only the buildings and facilities, but also the educational offering and ethos, all of which provide our boys with such a broad set of opportunities and a unique school experience.

On Sunday our U13As returned from the Grey Water Polo Tournament in Gqeberha where they were placed 6th out of sixteen teams from around the country. College water polo teams were also participating in competitions outside of Cape Town. The U14A team were unbeaten at the Jeppe Festival and the 1st team won the KES Festival for the first time ever with both teams including a number of former Prep boys.

Yesterday a number of boys participated in the annual Athletics Quadrangular that we host with Wynberg Boys, WPPS and Rhenish participating. Highlights will be posted during the next week.

Best wishes

Kind regards

GREG BROWN
