Dear Parents

BUGSY MALONE
Thank you for your support for our musical. We had five full houses and so many of our boys saw the production. We were so proud of what our boys and the girls of St Cyprians achieved – providing us with such an entertaining, “slick”, amusing and uplifting period piece that is Bugsy Malone.  It took an enormous amount of effort and time across three terms and I commented to one of the actors this week that it involved a great deal of work, and his reply was, “Yes, sir, but it was all worth it in the end”. Productions such as this teach young people so much about delayed gratification, keeping the long view and good, plain hard work.

We also need to thank and commend all the staff involved. The integration of media, film and live stage, which was so successful and a real stand out, took an enormous amount of work with the filming over five full days with professional cameramen. A production on this scale involves every staff member doing various “marshalling” duties, backstage or front of house. Some worked for many weeks and others for many months, So I thank them all. Thank you too to the parents who assisted in many ways and the Parents Association for turning the Old Gym into a luxurious Speak Easy for the production week. Congratulations to Caroline Duck (Director), Sandee Clapperton (Musical Director) and the Music Department, Sue Johns and Mark Erlangsen for the magnificent set.

CONGESTION AND OUR OAKS
Apologies for this week’s need to close our staff parking meaning that Fir Road was full of staff cars making drop off and pick up a lot more difficult. Sadly, two of our beautiful oaks have had to be felled this week due to the PSHB infection. This follows another five felled in the last year. This is a problem all over Cape Town, although some oaks still remain healthy. While the solution has changed from immediately removing any infected tree and incinerating, to removing infected growth and leaving the trunk to try to regenerate if the trunk is sufficiently healthy, this was not the case with these two trees and both are cut down in full and the stumps removed. So, new trees are to be planted and it will be a few years before we enjoy their shade and beauty.

HAIR
To a mundane subject: boys‘ haircuts – but nevertheless important in a traditional school with a smart uniform. With four weeks to go to the end of the academic year, now is the time to have a proper haircut. If told to have one just before the final week, there will be much “gnashing of teeth” as he might not want a proper school cut for the holidays. Please support us in this. The haircut now must be short enough to last until the end of term. While there are clear rules about hair, it is doubly important as we have a number of special events towards the end of the term involving all boys and wearing No. 1s.

RHODES SCHOLARSHIP
A letter has been sent out to the parent body regarding the Rhodes Scholarship.  If you wish to respond, please do so by Friday, 14 November 2025.

Bishops Blue Pages - Call for Advertisers

It's almost the end of the school year! A perfect time to place an advert in the Bishops Blue Pages - the last one of the year, and usually the best one!

This is a great opportunity for you to advertise holiday destinations, fun family activities, babysitting services, eating out specials, family photo shoots, home decor, table decor, airbnb management, flight specials, gift markets, new bicycles, sports accessories, gymnastic holiday clubs, pet sitting services, healthcare specialists and more ....

Aside from a great marketing opportunity, all proceeds from the advertising are channelled through the various outreach programs supported by the Bishops PA.  With the funds we generate, we are able to support Athwood Primary School, St Paul's Primary School and VUSA with additional stationery and supplies.

If you are interested in advertising and supporting these initiatives, please see HERE for more information and complete your info via this link:

Grade 4 News

Grade 4s doing probability experiments in groups for Maths. They probably had a lot of fun too!

Grade 7 Social
The Grade 7s enjoyed their social evening with St Cyprian’s on Tuesday evening at the Prep. There were multiple activities in which the boys and girls engaged enthusiastically, with the highlight being the dance lessons taught by Miss Johns and then performed by the boys with their partners. There was a pizza, cooldrink & ice cream to enjoy which gave this excited group of boys and girls plenty of energy to dance off at the end of the evening. What a joy it was to see teenage children engaging without any technological devices!
Swimming News

It was a busy and exciting stretch for our swimmers, with three major events — the Junior Gala, Senior Gala, and Pentangular Gala — all taking place within just nine days. Bishops competed against Wynberg Boys, Western Province Prep, SACS, and Rondebosch Boys in each gala. The boys showed great determination and team spirit throughout, giving their best in every race despite the demanding schedule. While we placed fourth in all three galas, there were many personal bests, close finishes, and moments of true perseverance that made the school proud.

The results may not have reflected the full extent of their hard work, but the growth, attitude, and sportsmanship displayed were outstanding.
Well done to all our swimmers — your effort and resilience in the pool continue to inspire us. Keep pushing forward, and the results will follow!
