THURSDAY 11 September 2025
Dear Parents

Although our fixtures against other schools have now come to an end, the boys are still very busy with soccer, tour preparations, and rehearsals for our production, Bugsy Malone. This term, we as a school have focused on two important areas: punctuality and carrying out instructions. We have seen boys being more punctual, ready for lessons, and returning quickly after breaks.  Some boys are still arriving late for the start of the school day at 7.30am and we ask for your support in ensuring that your son gets to school on time.

Carrying out instructions is still a work in progress. We are teaching the boys to listen with their eyes and ears—simply looking at the speaker helps them focus better. Please help reinforce these habits at home.

Winter photographs will be taken in the last week of term. These photos are important for our records and the yearly magazine, so we ask for your support in ensuring that your son's uniform is correct and that his hair is neat and tidy.

There are many exciting events happening at school before the end of the term, and we  encourage the boys to finish the term well. We hope you will join us for the Family Chapel Service on Wednesday, 17 September at 11 am in the Memorial Chapel. It is always special to have parents celebrating with us.

Thank you for your wonderful support.

Kind regards

CHRIS GROOM

NEWS
Hockey News

Two exciting hockey events took place recently.

The U12A team were the victors in a tightly contested match against SACS in the Sporting Chance Day/Night Hockey Festival last Thursday while our B team also came a credible 7th place winning a tense sudden death showdown with Reddam House. The U12A team were also the recipients of the Hockey Husky this week!

The U13A team won the Western Province League which earned them a place in the prestigious Top Schools Hockey Tournament last weekend. They won their 5-team pool and advanced to the final where they faced Beaumont. They put up a spirited fight but were out-played on the day.

Well done to all these teams!

Music News

Congratulations to the Junior String Ensemble who received the Gold Medal at the Kaapse Afrikaanse Eisteddfod. This is a fantastic achievement!

VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge

Thank you to all the Prep boys and families who supported the VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge. It was incredible to see our community come together alongside Bishops College, other schools, sponsors, and families for 24 hours of cycling, music, and fun. Together, we raised just over R1 million, with R750,000 going directly into VUSA programmes.
This year’s funds will refurbish the kitchen that provides daily hot meals for children in the after-school programme and will help extend our English-as-a-Second-Language programme to younger grades, preparing learners for the critical Grade 4 transition.
The Prep boys brought wonderful energy and spirit to the event, and their participation helped make this fundraiser such a success.

If you couldn’t make it, HERE is a short video.
