Dear Parents

GRADE 4-7 ACADEMIC PROGRESS THIS TERM
This term has been a full and exciting term, and the boys have been working very hard at their academics. There is no Term 3 report. Instead, we have been doing continuous assessments throughout the term in preparation for the Semester Year End Report. You can monitor your son’s progress by viewing his marks on his MyBishopsLife profile. Select the Academic menu in MyBishopsLife and choose Marks from the drop-down provided. On the Marks screen, please click on each listed subject.

Please note that the subject mark is a rolling average that recalculates when each new task is released to the portal. Furthermore, tasks do not count equally towards the subject mark - some tasks count more than others, and thus tasks are released to the portal with a specific weighting. By the end of each semester (June and December), the weightings of released tasks will add up to 100% of the subject’s year mark.

Next week, the Gr 3–7 teachers will be holding meetings with some parents whom they will contact directly, but if you wish to set up a specific meeting to discuss your son’s progress, please contact your son’s form or subject teacher directly via email.

FAMILY SERVICE
Thank you to all our families who attended our Family Service yesterday morning, as well as to Father Monwabisi Peter, Rev Khwezi Bengani and our six altar servers.

Soon to be outgoing Head Boy, Luke Carter, who has been at Bishops since Grade R, was invited to address the boys. Early on in his talk he put on his Grade 7 Senior jersey, reminiscing about how excited he had been to be able to wear it five years ago. Of course it was too small for him and he used that to illustrate that he had grown, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. Now he wore his matric jersey, a jersey he had grown into and was comfortable in. He quoted from Colossians 2, verse 52: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man”.

He issued this injunction to the boys:

So, if you’re going to grow as a Bishops boy – not just in height, but in the way you live and lead – here is my challenge to you:

  • Live the Bishops values every day. Whether you are on the sports field, in the classroom, or walking past someone younger than you, show respect, play fair and lead by example.
  • Look after the younger boys. You will remember what it was like to be new here. Be the older boy who smiles, helps out and sets the standard for the boys watching you.
  • Make the most of your opportunities. At Bishops you get chances others only dream about. Use them to try new things, work hard, and grow your talents – not just for yourself, but so you can give back.

If you commit to these three things, you’ll grow into the kind of Bishops man this school will be proud to send out in to this world.

So, don’t be afraid to outgrow the old jersey. Don’t be afraid to change. Keep growing in wisdom, in kindness, and in faith. And one day, you’ll look back and see just how far God, Bishops and your parents have brought you.”

Certainly an inspiring talk about growing, moving on and embracing the opportunities our life journeys present. It was a proud moment for us to see and experience the young man that Luke has become.

Best wishes

Kind regards
