Dear Parents
Thank you to those who arranged and attended last night’s gathering. It was a pleasure to meet so many of you, and I look forward to the many future engagements we will share as a school community.
Several parents asked about the quotation I referenced in my brief address, and I thought this would be an appropriate opportunity to share it more widely in our newsletter.
In her seminal work, The Good High School, Sara Lawrence Lightfoot writes:
“The search for good schools is elusive and disappointing if, by goodness, we mean something close to perfection. The portraits of good schools reveal imperfections, uncertainties, and vulnerabilities. In fact, one could argue that a consciousness about imperfections, and the willingness to admit them and search for their origins and solutions, is one of the important ingredients of goodness in schools.”
I believe strongly that Bishops is a good school. It is made up of delightful boys, a talented and dedicated staff, and involved, aspirational parents. Together, we must continue to build on the inherent goodness of our school and strive for its ongoing growth and improvement.
As we enjoy the long weekend ahead, let us be mindful of and grateful for the freedoms we enjoy. This will be the focus of tomorrow’s assembly, and I encourage you to invite your sons into conversation and reflection during your weekend activities.
Best wishes to our U11A and U13A rugby teams who will be participating in the Bosch Rugby Festival this weekend.
Kind regards
LESTER LALLA

Minute to Win It
The Music Department's Minute to Win It competition is officially underway for Term 2!
A big congratulations to our Term 1 champions: the Piano Department. The Woodwind Department followed just two minutes behind, making it a very close and exciting finish. To celebrate their hard work, our piano students will enjoy a movie night in the Jagger Hall, with invitations to follow shortly.
All music students are encouraged to start practising and contribute to their instrumental team’s scores - every minute counts, so don’t forget to sign those homework diaries! Will the pianos hold onto their champion title this term? |

The Artists of the Week were chosen from Grade 6. Last term these boys worked on Self Portraits and drew themselves in pencils. After this, they took photographs of themselves and made another Self Portrait by cutting up the photocopies and drawing around them, giving us clues to who they are!
