Dear Parents

It was in 1919 that Bishops Prep became its own entity. The young boys moved from what was then known as Woodlands, the present College campus, to the Rossall campus on Duke Road, and a few years later the footprint extended to Stanmore. According to early records, the boys adored the freedom of the large grounds and the custard apple tree, which bore the most delectable fruit.

One hundred and seven years later, our idyllic school is part of a lively suburb with many commuters and residents. This reality is most evident during peak drop-off and pick-up times.

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic during these busy periods, Fir and Duke Roads are strictly designated drop-off zones. Please may I remind you not to park your vehicle in these areas or engage in lengthy conversations during drop-off. This will help all our families move through the zones with relative ease. From Monday, our staff will be assisting with traffic flow, and we thank you in advance for your support.

Smart Watches
The currency of learning is attention, and it is a finite commodity. Any skilled teacher understands the art of limiting distractions in order to maximise learning.

Smart watches are an environmental distraction and have been shown to limit deep engagement in both adults and children.
As a result, boys may not bring smart watches to school.

Should your son wish to track his health and fitness metrics, he is welcome to make use of a non-interactive wearable device.

Coffee Connects
Over the course of the term, I will be hosting informal Coffee Connect mornings for each grade. The aim of these sessions is to engage in conversation about your boys, our Prep School, and our shared journey.

Civvies Day: Dress as an Idiom Day!
A civvies day to launch Book Week! Get ready to bring your favourite idiom to life! Whether you have a chip on your shoulder, you’re the bee’s knees, or when pigs fly, it’s your chance to turn a well-known saying into a creative costume. Have fun, think outside the box, and we will see if our classmates can each guess the idiom!

Exclusive Books Book Sale
Exclusive Books will be holding a big Book Sale in the Library for the week: Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th August. Brand new, trending as well as popular book series will be available. Prices range from R150 – R300. Boys can purchase in their Library Lesson or at their lunch time. Parents are welcome to visit the sale after school from 14h15 – 15h30. Please note the Book Sale will close at 15h30 each day. Payment can be made via cash or card. We look forward to seeing you!

Big Ideas is a project-based learning programme offered to Grade 9 students at Bishops Diocesan College. This year, our class of 27 students has partnered with the Craft School, a technical training academy based in Woodstock and our aim is to improve the everyday lives of the students and teachers attending the school.
The Craft School is a non-fee-paying institution that empowers young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering year-long courses in textiles, woodwork and more, equipping them with valuable practical skills for the future.

Our Wishlist includes: fabric scissors, tape measures, fabric, big rulers, pencils, sewing machines, ironing boards, and irons.

Baskets will be in the Prep Library for drop off and last day to drop will be the 11th August.
