Dear Parents
Thank you to our parents for another full and busy week at school. As the hot weather continues, please remember to pack caps and sunblock to ensure boys are protected during outdoor activities.
We remain concerned about the growing amount of lost property around the school. On one day alone, I personally picked up seven Prep boys’ bathing costumes at the pool, along with at least three pairs of goggles. Many of these items were clearly named, yet still left behind — which is rather alarming. As a school, we want to encourage boys to take responsibility for their belongings and arrive prepared for both school and activities.
Research consistently shows that when children experience natural consequences for forgotten or misplaced items, they develop stronger organisational skills, independence, and accountability. Shielding children from these small consequences often delays the development of these essential life habits.
Reception is currently inundated with a constant stream of forgotten items being dropped off during the school day, which causes disruption to learning and administration. To address this, we will be implementing a NO DROP-OFF WEEK from Monday to Friday.
During this time:
- No items will be accepted at reception or security for delivery to boys.
- Boys will not be permitted to phone home for forgotten items.
- The only exception will be match-related communication if a boy is needed to play for an ill teammate.
- If a forgotten item is regarded as an emergency situation, the school will contact the parents
This initiative will be clearly communicated to both boys and staff, and we ask for your full support. Boys will need to manage without forgotten items — an important step in building responsibility and resilience — while also reducing unnecessary disruption to the school day.
Thank you for partnering with us in helping our boys grow in independence and accountability
Kind regards
CHRIS GROOM
