Dear Parents

Welcome back to what has been a slightly shorter week following our school holiday on Monday. The change to the usual rhythm of the week has meant that a few fixtures needed to be rescheduled, and we are grateful to staff, coaches and families for accommodating these adjustments so that the boys did not miss out on their matches.

Yesterday, we gathered in the Chapel for a meaningful Ash Wednesday service. We were privileged to have Revd Thabang Bengani with us, who shared thoughtfully about the relevance of Lent in our daily lives. His message encouraged reflection, intentional living and a renewed focus on what truly matters — a fitting way to begin this important season in the Christian calendar.

Following a trial of a “no drop-off goods” week, we have made the decision to continue this practice until the end of term. Thank you to those families who have respected and supported this rule. To those who may have found the adjustment challenging, we ask for your understanding of the intention behind it. The policy is in place to support the smooth running of the school day. In the case of a genuine emergency, the school will contact you directly should anything be required for your son.

A further reminder that boys arriving late for school must enter via the main school gate in Fir Road and report to Mrs Renate Swartz in the front office before going to class. This is an important security measure and ensures that we are able to account for all boys on campus.

Thank you for your continued support in these hugely important initiatives. Working together as a community ensures that our school remains both orderly and safe for all.

Ramadaan Mubarak. Wishing all our Muslim families well over the fast.

Kind regards

Mastering the Juggle: Helping Your Child Get Organized

Executive functioning skills are essential for staying organized, managing time, and completing tasks. They play a key role in success at school and in later life. This talk will explore how these skills develop, why they matter, and how they help foster independence while reducing daily frustrations. Learn about common challenges your child may face and how to support them on their path to organization and success.

Music Invitation and Challenge!

Strings Strike Gold!

Our String Department were crowned the Term 4 2025 “Minute to Win It” Practice Challenge Champions, becoming the first-ever winners of the competition. Throughout the term, boys logged their practice minutes and showed impressive musical growth. Thank you to our parents for signing practice cards and supporting practice at home - it makes all the difference. To celebrate, the 2025 Grades 3 to 7 String students (now 2026 Grades 4-8) will enjoy a Winners’ Pool Party on Saturday, 14 March.  Woodwinds, brass, pianists, vocalists and percussionists - the Strings have set the bar. Can anyone knock them off the podium this term?

NEWS
House Leadership 2026
Congratulations to these boys! We wish them well as they serve their respective houses this year.
Athletics News

We had a most enjoyable Sports Day last Tuesday with our boys running, jumping and throwing their hearts out for their houses. Charlton won narrowly from Van Der Bijl. The individual age group Victor Ludorum winners were: U9 Sebastian Halliday, U10 Cade Darné, U11 Aiden Florence, U12 Cruz Harris, U13 Nicholas Kalil.
The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly Rafferty Mackenzie (pictured left above) breaking a 27 year old U10 200m record. He ran a blistering 29,53 sec smashing the record set by B Alheit in 1999 of 30,4 sec.
Bramley won the Spirit Cup and Brooke won the trials Cup.
We host the Quadrangular on Tuesday 24 February, and we go to SACS for the Pentangular on Tuesday 3 March.

We would also like to congratulate Nicholas Kalil (Captain of Athletics) and Orlando Robbins (Vice Captain of Athletics), pictured right above.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday 2026

“A Lent That Wakes Us Up to Love”

This week, as a Prep community, we gathered to mark the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, a moment of stillness in the middle of a busy term. We were deeply privileged to have The Revd. Thabang Bengani, Deputy Head (Pastoral) at Western Province Preparatory School, as our guest preacher.
In a message that was both honest and powerful, he reminded us that Lent is not primarily about giving something up, it is about waking up.

  1. Waking up to who we are becoming.
  2. Waking up to what is shaping our hearts.
  3. Waking up to where we are looking for comfort and approval.

Ash Wednesday begins with ashes a small cross traced on the forehead. Ashes tell the truth: we are human, we are imperfect, we are in need of grace. But the cross tells a greater truth: we are deeply loved.
Revd. Thabang Bengani shared a moving story built around John 3:16, not as a verse merely to memorise, but as a reality to experience. Warmth. Food. Cleansing. Rest. Belonging. The heart of the message was simple and unforgettable: before we achieve, before we perform, before we prove ourselves, we are loved.
That truth is not sentimental. It is foundational. In a world where boys and adults can so easily measure themselves by results, rankings, sport, screens, or social approval, Lent invites us to something steadier. It invites us to live from security, not insecurity. From identity, not comparison. From grace, not pressure.
For our boys, this means:

  1. You do not need to perform for approval.
  2. You do not need to prove your worth through marks or medals.
  3. You are free to grow, to learn, to try, because you are already valued.

For our staff, it means leading from calm conviction rather than anxiety. For our families, it means building homes where love is spoken, shown and embodied, not assumed.
As we journey through Lent 2026, perhaps the most meaningful practice is not simply giving up chocolate or screen time. Perhaps it is choosing:

  1. To pause before reacting.
  2. To forgive more quickly.
  3. To speak encouragement more intentionally.
  4. To turn down the noise and turn up reflection.

Lent is forty days of returning, returning to what matters most. The cross marked in ash is not a sign that says “Try harder.” It is a sign that says “You are loved.”
And when a child truly knows he is loved, he grows in courage. When a teacher leads from love, a classroom becomes steady. When a community rests in love, it becomes resilient.
May this Lent not simply be observed, may it shape us.

  1. Let us wake up.
  2. Let us come home.
  3. Let us live as a Prep community that is deeply, completely, and unshakably loved.

The Revd Khwezi Bengani
