Dear Parents
We’re officially midway through winter, and the conclusion of Term 2. I want to extend my thanks to the staff and boys of Bishops Prep for their dedication and commitment this term.
At the time of writing this newsletter, our Grade 7 boys are preparing to return following a successful tour to KZN. It’s a significant undertaking, and Mr Erlangsen and the touring staff deserve much credit and thanks. Amidst the fun and novel exposure, I observed moments of personal growth and self-belief, independence building, and mutual care.
Half-Year Academic Reports
Progress reports will be released on Friday, 26 June. Please take the time to unpack this important feedback with your son.
While acknowledging good outcomes is important, effort and incremental growth must also be noted. Our boys are in the preparatory phase of education, not the finishing phase. The ‘not yet’ moments are a necessary part of the journey.
Conclusion
Best wishes to our U13A Rugby team who will travel to Johannesburg to participate in the Independent Schools Rugby Festival. May you enjoy a successful festival.
I wish all our families a restful winter holiday.
Kind regards
LESTER LALLA

Chapel Reflection
As we reach the end of Term 2, we give thanks for a term filled with learning, growth, friendship, achievement and opportunity. Throughout the term, our boys have been reminded that God's promises are true, faithful and unchanging. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage or through the everyday experiences of school life, we have encouraged them to recognise God's presence in both their successes and their challenges. As we head into the holidays, may our boys enjoy a well-deserved rest, may our staff be refreshed after a busy term, and may our families enjoy valuable time together. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We wish everyone a safe and blessed holiday and look forward to welcoming the boys back for Term 3.
With love and blessings,
The Revd. Khwezi Bengani |

| VUSA News and 24 Hour Cycle Challenge |
 |
Whether through attending events, donating clothing, volunteering, supporting our fundraising efforts or simply following our journey, your involvement helps create opportunities for children in Langa through sport, education and holistic support. We are grateful not only for your support, but also for the values being instilled in your children. Last week, we received a really sweet video from the Skeeles Tournament showing a group of Grade 4 boys enthusiastically cheering on the VUSA players from the sidelines. It was a small but powerful reminder of the connections being built between the VUSA and Bishops children.
To read our latest newsletter and see what our learners have been up to this term, please click HERE.
You'll also find information about this year's 24 Hour Cycle Challenge, taking place on 5–6 September. Registration for Prep School riders will open during the first week of Term 3. The current sign-up link is intended for all parents and College pupils as this sign-up form is for the 24 hour event. If you have daughters or children in other high schools, please feel free to share the event details with them, as we will once again be inviting partner schools to join the fun.
Wishing you all a wonderful, safe holiday. Thank you again for your kindness, generosity and support.
From the VUSA Team. |

| Grade 3 News |

| The Grade 3s had a lot of fun learning Upuca. It is a traditional, fast-paced South African indigenous game. It is played on the ground using 10 to 20 small stones and one slightly larger stone. The goal is to toss and catch the larger stone while picking up or rearranging the smaller stones before catching it again. |
| Grade 7 News |

The Grade 7s enjoyed a memorable and action-packed tour to KwaZulu-Natal, beginning with a visit to St Charles where they were warmly welcomed with a hearty lunch. The boys quickly immersed themselves in a variety of sporting activities, including a mini football festival and competitive hockey matches. The football matches, played between mixed-ability teams, were enjoyed in warm Pietermaritzburg weather, while the hockey teams delivered impressive performances, with strong victories for the A and B teams and a determined effort from the C team. The visit was further enriched by musical performances and an educational trip to the Natal National Museum.
After bidding farewell to their hosts at St Charles, the group travelled to Phezulu Safari Park, where they experienced Zulu cultural dances, reptile displays, and game drives. The tour then continued to Sugar Bay in Zinkwazi, where the boys embraced a wide range of exciting activities. They made the most of their time there, enjoying beach activities such as surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and touch rugby. They also participated in various land-based activities and took time to relax and connect, including watching a rugby match together. On Father’s Day, the boys had the opportunity to contact their families, adding a meaningful personal touch to the trip. A highlight was the epic fire show they were treated to on their last night at Sugar Bay. The following day the boys visited the uShaka Aquarium for an educational tour and dolphin show before arriving at Clifton, their hosts for the last leg of the tour. The final morning was spent at UShaka Wet and Wild which was the perfect way to spend all that energy before the trek back to Cape Town!
Overall, the tour provided a wonderful balance of sport, culture, adventure, and camaraderie, leaving the boys with lasting memories of a truly enjoyable experience.

| Skeeles 7s Tournament |
 |
The annual Skeeles 7’s rugby tournament was held at the end of last week, bringing together players from 6 schools for an exciting and spirited event on the school calendar. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Sportsmans Warehouse for their generous sponsorship, providing each player with a T-shirt and water bottle, which were greatly appreciated. Our gratitude also goes to Spur for supplying delicious burgers, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day.
A heartfelt thank you as well to the parents who generously gave their time and support to help make the tournament such a success. Their contribution played an important role in ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Overall, the tournament was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the second term’s rugby season, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit among all who took part. |
