THURSDAY 7 May 2026
Dear Parents

The boys, and some of us adults, are finding our rhythm again after the recent series of long weekends. How quickly routine can be disrupted!

One of the highlights of my week is my standing meeting with our Student Council. This group of student leaders approach their role with admirable seriousness and energy. I best be prepared for the maintenance update.

What leaves a lasting impression, however, is not simply what they raise, but how they raise it. Their observations and feedback are grounded in a deep affection for their school, and their critiques are thoughtful, balanced, and malleable. At such a formative age, they are already demonstrating a rare and powerful understanding of leadership and service.

At the recommendation of our Deputy Principal, Mr Trevor van Niekerk, I am currently reading The Song of Significance by Seth Godin. It is an insightful resource for those shaping purposeful teams and organisations.

In this popular read, Godin presents the view that, the purpose of a beehive (a healthy organisation) is not to produce honey, but to ensure the long-term survival, growth, and thriving of the colony. Honey is merely a by-product of a healthy, cooperative, and engaged hive.

While we celebrate the rich honey produced in this hive, the real work is about the development of thoughtful, resourceful and compassionate young men. My daily interactions, and those with our Student Council, attest that our hive is healthy and its purpose clear – Growing Good Men.

Thank you for your partnership in this journey.

Kind regards

LESTER LALLA

NEWS
Interhouse Fishing
The boys began their fishing adventure on a brisk, blustery morning, with all four Houses fiercely competing for the coveted trophy. Despite the challenging conditions, spirits were high and the rivalry was strong. That evening, the group was treated to an informative and inspiring talk by the Breede River Conservancy, after which many stories and laughs were shared around the campfire.
Day two started off just as windy, but by the afternoon the weather eased significantly, creating far better fishing conditions. The improvement paid off, with many more fish being caught and plenty of excitement along the riverbanks.
It was a memorable experience for everyone involved. Congratulations to Charlton House on winning the 2026 competition and to Mr Louw for a very well-organised event!
Young Engineers Club

The Young Engineers Club gives learners the opportunity to explore engineering through hands-on, practical activities. Members develop problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while building confidence and curiosity in STEM learning. Pictured here are club members assembling Scalextric kits, working together to design and construct tracks while learning how mechanical systems function in a fun and engaging way.

Spelling Bee - Have you heard the Buzz?

The Spelling Bee finals are in full swing!
Some of the challenging words tackled included brontosaurus, camouflage, atmosphere, and mystery. Well done to all our finalists on an outstanding performance!

Monday Chapel Assembly

This joyful moment from Monday’s assembly captures the boys fully engaged in singing “Making Melodies in My Heart to the King of Kings.” The song followed our chapel message on God’s promise of forgiveness, and it was a wonderful expression of that truth, that we can come to God honestly, be forgiven, and begin again. There was a real sense of energy and joy in the hall as the boys and staff responded with enthusiasm, reminding us that faith is not only something we think about, but something we live and celebrate together. This term our Chapel Theme is "God’s Promises".

Weekly Winners

The Artists of the Week were chosen from Grade 4.  The Praying Mantis was the topic for this drawing project and there are some real entomologists who have an exceptional knowledge of these insects. The boys were intrigued by some of the more dramatic species like the Devil’s Flower Mantis.  The following boys produced successful scraper board drawings: Please click HERE to view all the artwork.
