Dear Parents

A few months ago, while out for a run along the promenade, I was struck by a group of trees that served as a powerful metaphor for life, and for our work with boys. There is nothing “normal” about the way these trees grow, and yet they are flourishing.
In the same way, the growth, progress, and long-term success of our boys are rarely linear. Their journeys are often punctuated by temporary losses, setbacks, and disappointments, all of which demand resilience and bounce-back-ability.
Angela Duckworth, a leading researcher in the field of grit, defines resilience as the ability to bounce back, adapt, and grow from adversity.
I shared this image with the boys during assembly last Friday, and the hall was energised with ideas and reflections about how this tree has not only survived but continues to flourish.
Teaching, like parenting, asks us to reframe setbacks, to praise effort, and to play the long game. This requires constant recalibration and gentle reminding.
Grit, that sustained passion and perseverance, is a fundamental ingredient for long-term success.

Africa Month

The month of May marks Africa Month, a celebration of our shared identity across this vibrant and youthful continent. As 1.5 billion people, we are richly diverse in language and culture, yet united by a common identity.
Africa Day, celebrated on 25 May, commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. It is an important opportunity to reflect on our place and our shared story. Regardless of where the seeds of our origins may lie, we are African, and this is our home.

Beginners Concert

Congratulations to all who participated in last night’s Beginners Concert. It was a truly beautiful evening of music-making.
Bravo, boys.

Thank You

On behalf of our entire community, I extend sincere thanks to our support and grounds staff for their resilience and hard work following the harsh weather earlier this week. Thanks to their dedicated efforts, there have been minimal disruptions to our teaching programme.

Kind regards
