FRIDAY 22 April 2022

Dear Parents

I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend.

Each year on April 22, billions of people across the globe join to celebrate Earth Day to raise awareness about environmental issues. In assembly this morning the boys watched a video on the Earth, listened to boys reading poems about our environment and were also given some important information about why and how we can make a difference. They were told that the theme for Earth Day 2022 is “Invest in Our Planet” and that every individual in this world has a voice and together we can make a difference and build a framework to support a stable future. The boys were challenged to keep their playgrounds clean and to throw litter into the correct recycling bins.

To celebrate World Book Day on Saturday 23 April, boys brought a favourite book from home and enjoyed a “Book Buddies” paired reading session today. World Book Day is a fun day where over 100 countries around the world spend time with – and share – the books they love! A special day to celebrate authors, illustrators, and readers. After library monitors spoke in assembly, our older grades were paired with younger grades, discussed their favourite books and shared some reading aloud time together.

This weekend all our U 10 –13 rugby players are involved in the Skeeles 7s. There are no winners at these events and the boys have a great deal of fun. Next week, hockey and chess fixtures begin. We encourage all parents to support their sons at these inter-school fixtures and to “be their son’s greatest fan”, irrespective of the result or team they play for. Although it is important that each team is competitive and give of their best, we must always remember that sport should be fun and used as a tool to educate young children.

This term we will be focusing on the following and would like to thank you for your ongoing support in this regard.

  • Items forgotten at home and boys arriving late for school

Unfortunately, the number of items forgotten at home and boys arriving late for school has escalated once again. From Monday, a record will be kept of these boys and Housemasters will address this with repeat offenders.
It is important that your son arrives timeously for school and has time to play with his peers.

  • Masks

Please ensure that your child arrives at school with a mask and has a spare one in his bag.

  • Security

The relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions has resulted in more parents entering the campus during school hours. For security reasons, it is imperative that all parents still report to Stanmore House Reception when entering the school grounds.

Enjoy the weekend and thank you one and all for your continued support of Bishops.

Kind regards

CHRIS GROOM
DEPUTY HEADMASTER

World Book Day

Sebastian Horrell and Matthew Fox launched the World Book Day activities in assembly. They added 8 fun facts about books around the world. Following that our Grade 4 boys paired up with Grade 6s, our Grade 3 boys paired up with Grade 5s and our Grade 7s paired with Grade 2s at the Pre-Prep, and read aloud to each other. It was wonderful to see our campus alive with books and reading! Please visit our Facebook page for more photos.

Earth Day

This week a few of our learners presented Earth Day in assembly. Luthando Biko and Kieran Nayar presented the importance of the theme for this year: “Invest In Our Planet.” Understanding what this means and how we all fit is of utmost importance. It’s going to take all of us to make the change. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. Pictured above are Naadia Luzmore with Luthando Biko, Cullin Naylor, Kieran Nayar, Seth Lunn, Storm Silander and MJ Madubela

The boys shared poems by famous poets that encouraged this movement and ways we can practically make change. Here are a few below:

We are very proud of the effort the boys put in to present to the school today.
