Dear Parents
I sincerely hope that you all enjoyed the half-term break last weekend. This week has been extremely busy with a full round of fixtures together with the Quadrangular Gala held at Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School. Next week is another busy week for the school as we host the Quadrangular Athletics event on Tuesday 1 March at Lutgensvale. This is an exciting event for all involved.
Safety at school is paramount for our boys. During this week one of our boys was bumped by a car reversing on the pavement as they were walking to school. Parents, please be extremely vigilant when dropping off and collecting your sons. If you do need to park on the pavement, please look carefully before moving your vehicle. We have also noticed that boys are crossing the road on the corner of Fir and Duke Road. Boys crossing Fir Road may only do so if they are assisted by the security guard, Mr Mene, at the Stanmore gate. Boys who need to cross Duke Road may only use the pedestrian crossing. Please parents, we need your support here to prevent any accidents.
Congratulations to the boys who were elected as Heads and Deputies of their Houses. In assembly this week I told the boys that they all can lead. Many of them naturally lead as they live out the values of the Mitre: manners, integrity, togetherness, respect and empathy. Leadership is the ability to positively inspire and motivate others to action. It is for everyone and it is a skill that can be learnt. Leadership is more than just leading others, real leadership is about leading yourself first. Personal Leadership is about knowing and understanding yourself: it means taking full responsibility for your thoughts, your actions and the choices you make each day. John Wooden said “The most powerful leadership tool you have is your own personal example.” We encourage all boys to show leadership by living out the five values of the Mitre in their daily lives.
We wish our U13A team safe travels and every success as they participate in the Selborne Water Polo Festival in East London next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
CHRIS GROOM
