Dear Parents
While doing interviews with prospective parents, we are often asked about our approach to teaching the younger years. While doing more reading on play-based learning, that is being explored extensively across the world, I came across this very well written paragraph and I have shared it below. This is such an important skill that children need, to successfully navigate the world that surrounds them.
There is only one way to learn to make decisions and that is through practice. This is why play is so important for young children. It is the mechanism by which children can grapple with the dilemma of decision-making. Through play, we learn, in a relatively safe way, about the consequences of our decisions, we learn how to consider others in our decision-making, we figure out those habits that make our lives less stressful, and also what to do when our expectations are thwarted. There is pain, fear, and loss: these are the stressors we share with all living things. But the stress of decision-making is ours alone. And it is our blessing and our curse.
Wishing Ms Marilyn May, our cleaning lady (and cricket bowler at break time) a wonderful birthday on Monday 14 February. May you all have a restful and wonderful weekend.
Kind regards
SHARLENE GROOM

Fun Sports Day
Please take note of the change of date for this event. Originally, we planned it for Friday 18th but being a long weekend, it would not have been sensible. We therefore have rescheduled this great event to the Thursday 17th. All boys take part and families are invited to a lovely picnic on our beautiful fields after. More details to follow. |

TAKE NOTE |
Valentines Day
A gentle reminder for boys to come dressed in anything red/white/pink to celebrate this day of LOVE. This year we are focusing on showing our LOVE for animals and appeal to parents to please send pet food or any items that could be useful to any animal shelter. We will update you in the weeks that follow, as to where our donations are delivered. |
Covid updates
I am sure Grade N and R boys and parents will be delighted that as from Monday, masks are optional at school. As soon as we can relax masks in Grade 1 and 2 we will do so, but until then these older boys will still be required to wear masks indoors but when playing outdoors, they may be removed.
We received an updated Standard Operating Procedure document today that also allows us to stop screening boys and adults entering the property. We therefore will continue to sanitise and wash hands regularly. Another point in the document states:
Encourage parents to screen their children for symptoms prior to sending them to school. If a child is unwell or shows any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 parents must keep the child at home and consult a health official if necessary. Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this pandemic. |

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP |
Message from our Youth Pastor
Lord be with you
We have had an exciting week where many stories were shared on how the boys together with the parents have participated in living a generous and charitable life in the many spaces of society we find ourselves in. And that sharing of stories is what led us smoothly in the scripture of Luke 16:19-31, which we read the parable about the Rich man and Lazarus and heard some beatitudes from Jesus` first sermon.
It was indeed beautiful to hear what the boys have been doing in the sense of sharing and helping others at home, at school and in community. And I would like to thank you all for your beautiful teachings and I pray that they may be enhanced as we follow the teachings of our God.
Let us pray:
Dear God, we thank you that you came into the world to show us how to live. Please help me to remember that it is not always about me, and so help me to care for others as you have cared about me, in Jesus Holy name.
Amen

We are so proud of you all and particularly for staying in your lanes. Well done boys! |
Uniform
Thank you to parents for adhering to our uniform guidelines. Please be reminded that boys need to wear white takkies as part of their uniform. Shoes must be worn when entering and leaving the school. |
Lunch boxes
There are still some lunch box items that please need to be reviewed. Please look carefully at the sugar content of pre-packaged items before packing them in. Please make sure that all lunch boxes and water bottles are clearly marked. |
Times
Boys are required to be at school before 8am which is when the bell goes. Please note that the top gate near the hall will close at 8am and you will be required to drop your son off in the drop and go area, near reception. Late arrival is unsettling for both the boy concerned and the rest of the class. We understand that there may be an occasional circumstance that leads to a late arrival but this cannot happen regularly. Thank you for understanding. |

HIGHLIGHTS |
Valentines Day |
 |
A big thank you to the parents who spent time this morning making our school beautiful and decorating it for Valentines Day. Your help is hugely appreciated. |
Grade N |
 |
Our Grade N’s have loved exploring our various senses this week. |
Grade R |
 |
Manners, care, kindness and empathy are the values we are exploring and intentionally practicing. As Grade R focuses on friendships this week, it is so important that the boys find opportunities to share their playtime with someone whom they haven’t yet met. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “It is a happy talent to know how to play”.
|
Grade 1

The Grade 1 theme for this week was Diversity. Our book of the week was 'The Colour Of Us' . They enjoyed learning more about themselves and each other, discovering their differences and similarities.
|
Grade 2

What a wonderful week our boys have had! They got to colour the South African flag in and write as many words they could using the " fl" blend.
Playing chess outside in the shade, during break was cooler than running around in the heat.
Mrs Ahmed took the boys outside in the shade and revised place value during our numeracy sessions. To quote one of our boys, " you know I think Mrs Groom must make school in the shade in Summer"
