Dear Parents
Our school reports will be released on Thursday, 24 June. The reports are more than just a summary of marks or achievements. They are a reflection of each boy’s journey, capturing his progress, effort, and the unique qualities he brings to the classroom. Reports allow us to pause, take stock, and celebrate the many ways our boys are growing — academically, socially, and emotionally.
Writing these reports is a thoughtful process. Teachers dedicate significant time to observing, assessing, and reflecting on each child’s development. This careful feedback ensures that every report is personalised, evidence-based, and highlights both strengths and areas for continued growth. It is not a quick task but rather an important opportunity to honour each boy’s hard work and provide parents with meaningful insight into their son's learning journey.
We encourage you to highlight the positive feedback in your son’s report with him. Celebrating his effort and progress helps him recognise his achievements and motivates him to continue striving. At the same time, constructive guidance fosters resilience and a growth mindset, teaching him that learning is a journey filled with challenges and successes.
Our teachers bring both experience and skill to the process of writing reports. Each one is equipped to independently reflect on a boy’s development, drawing on their professional knowledge and daily observations. This allows them to make thoughtful recommendations that serve each child’s best interests. Their expertise ensures that every report is not only a record of progress but also a guide for future growth, carefully tailored to support each boy’s unique journey.
Ultimately, our reports are written to strengthen the partnership between home and school. They provide parents with a window into the classroom, while affirming the values we hold dear — integrity, empathy, and perseverance. We hope that when families read these reports, they celebrate not only the outcomes but also the effort, determination, and character that each boy is developing.
Happy birthday to Mrs Daames (14 June) Mrs Gedu and Ms Gaea Hendrikse (15 June), Mrs Band (16 June), Ms Tabata (18 June).
On Tuesday, 16 June, we will observe Youth Day. It is a time to honour the young people of 1976, whose bravery and determination profoundly shaped the future of our nation. This year marks 50 years since the Soweto Uprising, a pivotal moment in our history when many young lives were tragically lost. As we commemorate this day, we pause to reflect, be grateful, and remember their sacrifice and enduring legacy.
Kind regards

TARYN BAIN

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP |
God Gives us Peace
Dear Pre-Prep Families
This week in Pre-Prep Chapel, we reflected on Jesus’ beautiful promise:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” – John 14:27 God Gives Us Peace.
Using a bicycle helmet as an illustration, we spoke about learning to ride a bicycle. Most of us do not get it right the first time. We wobble, we fall, and sometimes we feel a little nervous. What helps us keep going is knowing that someone is there beside us, encouraging us every step of the way. God Gives Us Peace.
Jesus promises to be that constant presence in our lives. When school feels challenging, when we are learning something new, when friendships are difficult, or when we feel unsure, Jesus is with us. His peace reminds us that we never walk alone. God Gives Us Peace.
As we move towards the end of a busy term, we encouraged the boys to remember three simple truths:
Keep smiling. Keep trying. Keep trusting Jesus. God Gives Us Peace.
As we look ahead to the long weekend, I encourage our boys and families to take time to rest, enjoy one another’s company and give thanks for God’s many blessings. In a world that is often busy and noisy, moments of rest remind us that God’s peace is not something we have to earn. It is a gift He freely gives to His children.
It has been a wonderful term filled with learning, laughter, growth and discovery. We are grateful for the partnership between home and school as together we help our boys grow in confidence, character and faith.
May God’s peace be with all our Pre-Prep families over the long weekend and in the weeks ahead.
Blessings,
Revd Khwezi Bengani |

GENERAL INFO |
Celebrating our boys
Alessandro Oberholzer and Yusuf Rajah, both in Grade R have been selected to represent Western Province for kumite (fighting) for regionals in September and nationals next year. Well done, boys! We are very proud of your achievement. |
| Newsletter: Sportmanship & Grit By Mr Ncube |
 |
It was with great excitement that Mr Ncube spoke to the boys about sportsmanship, grit, and how they see themselves.
We began by discussing what the boys enjoy and do not enjoy about their sporting experiences, especially during free play. From there, they reflected on sportspeople they admire and identified the qualities and values they believe those individuals represent.
The values the boys identified included being kind to their opponents, playing fairly, saying "good game", not arguing with the referee, avoiding cheating, helping their teammates, staying positive, remaining humble, showing good sportsmanship, avoiding name-calling, and always being honest.
This forms part one of a three-part lesson series. In the second lesson, the boys explored these values through experience-based learning activities, role play, and real-life examples. This week, they will reflect on their learning through writing and drawing, focusing on how they would like to conduct themselves and the values they would like to live by.
We acknowledge that the excitement of a World Cup usually has an impact on our boy’s behaviour on the sports field and playground. It is with this in mind that we are deliberate about providing tailored learning opportunities for our boys to navigate this exciting time. The time spent with Mr Ncube was really beneficial to the boys and we truly hope that creating the space for conversations, learning from practical scenarios and reflection will help build their sportsmanship skills and give them the necessary tools for the thing our boys enjoy the most about school; play time! |

HIGHLIGHTS |
| Grade N |
 |
Our Grade N boys have been busy little farmers, exploring life on the farm and learning where many of our foods come from! This week, they dug deeper into the colourful world of fruits and vegetables, discovering their different shapes, colours, textures, and characteristics. Creativity flourished through free painting, collaborative artwork, weaving, and beautiful still-life wax and dye creations inspired by their learning. They especially loved creating cherry cakes with sponges, shaving foam and realistic cherries. The boys loved getting hands-on, sharing ideas, and expressing themselves through art. What a fruitful and fun-filled two weeks of learning and discovery! |
| Grade R |
 |
Over the past two weeks, the Grade R boys have been busy exploring the fascinating world of minibeasts! We have learned all about their characteristics, habitats, life cycles, and the important roles they play in nature. From busy bees and hardworking worms to colourful butterflies and clever spiders, the boys have discovered just how amazing these tiny creatures are.
Our minibeast theme inspired plenty of creativity in the classroom. The boys used a variety of techniques to create their own minibeast artworks and models, showing wonderful imagination and attention to detail.
The highlight of the theme was undoubtedly our Bug Hotel Project! The boys became little architects as they designed and built bug hotels in groups. They foraged for natural materials at home and collected recyclable items to bring to school. Before building, they carefully drew blueprints of their ideas and discussed how different spaces could cater to different bugs.
Working together, the boys demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Their creativity truly shone through as they designed all sorts of rooms, tunnels, and compartments, all in the hope that some tiny residents might soon move in!
It has been a wonderful few weeks of hands-on learning, exploration, and fun. As we begin winding down towards the end of term, we look forward to more exciting discoveries, outdoor adventures, and hopefully many more beautiful weather days to enjoy together. |
| Grade 1 |
 |
The Grade 1 boys have enjoyed a busy and exciting week filled with meaningful learning experiences. They were fortunate to take part in a special soccer lesson hosted by Mr Ncube, where they enthusiastically practised the important values of teamwork and good sportsmanship. During isiXhosa lessons, the boys had great fun strengthening their communication skills through interactive games. In class, the boys explored the three R’s -reduce, reuse, and recycle- while learning about the valuable role garbage trucks play in keeping our communities clean and healthy. During reading and writing activities, they focused on the -ck sound and continued building confidence in recognising and writing -sh, -th, and -ch sounds in words and sentences. In Mathematics, the boys investigated doubling and halving, practised sorting rubbish into the correct recycling categories, and thoroughly enjoyed using coins to purchase items in the classroom “thrift shop”. In Art, they put their imaginations to work by creating fantastical fish and rocket ships using recycled materials. |
| Grade 2 |
 |
The Grade 2 boys have had a busy and engaging final two weeks of term. In Mathematics, they have been working with money, using coins and notes in practical activities to strengthen their understanding of value and simple calculations. They also enjoyed measuring themselves and comparing their results, which helped them apply measurement skills in a personal and meaningful way.
Across subjects, the boys combined creativity with learning by drawing some of their teachers and writing about what it would be like to be “Teacher for a Day”. This activity encouraged imaginative thinking and provided a fun opportunity to reflect on classroom roles and responsibilities.
It has been a productive and enjoyable end to the term, and the boys are looking forward to a well-deserved holiday break. |
