Dear Parents
It was wonderful to start our week together with our Family Chapel Service. Our reading was based on Colossians 3:12-14. The boys were reminded in our Service about our Mitre values: Manners, Integrity, Togetherness, Respect, and Empathy. When we put these values into action, we are really living out the words of Colossians.
When we show manners, we are practicing kindness.
When we live with integrity, we are clothing ourselves with honesty and humility.
When we value togetherness, we are building the unity Paul speaks about.
When we show respect, we are treating others as God’s dearly loved children.
And when we practice empathy, we are showing compassion and patience.
Thank you to all our families for attending and sharing in a very special part of how we start our week. .
As we move towards the end of the term, I would like to share a few updates from across our school community. These developments highlight both the progress being made in our facilities and the ongoing work of the Parents’ Association, as well as some important reminders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone on campus.
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
Mr Brown and I want to thank Bruce Darné who has served as Chair for the last two years. He has been a pleasure to work with and has been very supportive and committed to building community. He has had to step down early though (before the AGM) for business reasons. Sally Duncan, a current member of the Committee has been nominated to replace Bruce as Chair and has stepped up without hesitation, so we can be very grateful for this. She has already represented the PA at two Council meetings.
GROUNDS
Mr Reeler has shared that the water polo pool project is well under way but has been hampered severely by the inclement weather. Provision was made for disruption due to weather in the planning process, but we simply must accept that it may take longer than anticipated.
Planning for the much needed second astroturf field has begun in earnest with an initial meeting of several stakeholders and experts as ideas were debated and shared. This committee will be made smaller to create a much smaller one that is easier to get together. The question most are asking is when this project will start and we cannot give a definitive answer just yet, but we are hoping, to get going at the start of 2026 – if possible.
CAR PARK SAFETY
I continue to receive reports from parents weekly about personal items being stolen out of the vehicles especially in the mornings. Please be vigilant and do not leave items of value in your cars. As you walk away, please double check your car doors are locked.
Good luck to our rugby and soccer boys who are playing in tournaments this weekend.
Kind regards

TARYN BAIN

Message from Revd. Khwezi Bengani
This week, we celebrated Family Day, a special time to remember that we are all part of something bigger – God’s family. Boys, parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends gathered in the chapel to reflect on what it means to be rooted in love and growing together.
We explored this idea through the image of a sunflower:
- Roots – Like a sunflower’s roots, God’s love keeps us steady and strong.
- Stem – Jesus gives us the strength to stand tall, even when life gets tricky.
- Flower Head – Each of us shines brightly when we show kindness, patience, and joy.
- Seeds – When we share God’s love, we help others grow too.
Sunflowers don’t grow alone – they grow in fields, side by side, turning toward the light. And just like them, our families, our school, and our community flourish when we grow together in love.
This week, we encouraged the boys to reflect on how they shone each day – through small acts of kindness, patience, and forgiveness. And we invite you to continue this at home: ask your children, “How did you shine today?” Celebrate those little moments of love that make our community brighter.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, as a family rooted in God’s love, we can continue to grow, shine, and spread joy.
With love and blessings. |

GENERAL INFO |
VUSA |
 |
Our Pre-Prep staff team, the Bumble Wheels, pedalled right through the night at the VUSA 24-Hour Cycle Challenge, keeping the energy high and the gees alive! A big thank you to them, and to all the families who cheered them on and supported their efforts.
This community spirit helped raise just over R1 million, with R750,000 going into VUSA programmes. The funds will refurbish the kitchen that provides daily hot meals for children in Langa and will also help extend the English-as-a-Second-Language programme to Grades 1–3, giving learners the foundation they need before the big Grade 4 language transition.
Your support means brighter futures for our VUSA children - thank you for being part of this impact.
HERE is a short highlights video of the weekend.

HIGHLIGHTS |
Grade N |

WHAT FUN WE HAD DURING READATHON WEEK! WE DISCOVERED THE LOVE OF BOOKS AND THE EXCITEMENT THEY CAN BRING.
We were lucky enough to have Mrs Bain and Mr Brown read to us. We had our best listening ears during these stories showing beautiful posture and answering many questions at the end. In the artroom we were able to make bookmarks and little books. Our teachers even wrote the story for us! Thank you for all the book donations that came to school, these will be kindly received at underprivileged schools. We encourage our parents and family members to read to their children every evening. These are important foundations laid for early literacy. Have a lovely weekend. The Grade N Teachers. |
Grade R |
 |
The past two weeks in Grade R has been filled with excitement and discovery! We kicked things off with Book Week, where our theme “Wild About Reading” helped us explore the magic of books. The boys learnt how stories spark our imagination, how to care for books, and about the special roles of authors and illustrators. They even designed their own storybook covers! To celebrate, we enjoyed a picnic with our wild animal soft toys, wore touches of animal print, and ended the week with the much-anticipated Book Character Dress-Up Day.
This week, our focus shifted to the thrilling theme of Fire Safety. The boys learnt that while fire can be fun, it can also be dangerous and discussed how to stay safe around it. We also explored what it means to be a firefighter. The highlight was an unforgettable outing to the Roeland Street Fire Station. The boys got to spray water with the huge hoses, watch the firepole in action, and have a thrilling ride in the fire engine with sirens blaring! It was certainly an adventure to remember! |
Grade 1 |
 |
Grade 1 concluded their Wild Animal theme with a joyful focus on elephants, taking inspiration from the much-loved character Elmer. The boys reflected on what makes them unique and explored the values of friendship, togetherness, and celebrating individual talents. In literacy, they discovered describing words and were introduced to the -ng sound, with a focus on adding -ing to doing words. Their creativity extended into free play, where they designed thoughtful elephant sanctuaries and built three-dimensional elephants from Lego. In Design Technology, the boys crafted imaginative patchwork elephants of their own, while in Art they produced vibrant, colourful elephants to celebrate the Ganesh parade.
Readathon week flew by in a flash. The boys demonstrated amazing interest in a wide range of literature which culminated in a literacy parade on Friday. The teachers joined in, displaying TOGERTHERNESS and celebrating Winnie the Pooh, who is often described as the quintessential demonstration of simple wisdom, gentle friendship, and childlike wonder. |
Grade 2 |
 |
Last week was Readathon Week, and the Grade 2 boys were absolutely wild about reading! From the moment it began, excitement filled the air.
The boys visited the Prep Library, where they were captivated by stories and inspired by the wonderful Miss D, who read to them with such flair and enthusiasm. They also loved learning more about the Prep and what lies ahead!
To celebrate the theme, the boys wore their beautiful zebra masks, added a touch of animal print to their uniforms, and even dressed up as their favourite book characters.
This week started off on a heartwarming note with Family Chapel. It was such a treat to have parents join us and share in this special moment.
In the classroom, the boys have been learning about the "ow" sound, as in flower. To make it fun and memorable, they created crowns using their spelling words- a creative way to reinforce phonics while feeling like royalty!
We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and creativity. Here's to more magical moments in learning |
