FRIDAY 11 November 2022

Dear Parents

This week we had the honour of welcoming our new Grade N boys and parents to an Orientation afternoon.  How fabulous to be able to host a large part of the Matric class of 2036! It seems strange to think so far ahead but time seems to pass by so fast! I have had such interesting conversations with some of the boys this week about their year in Grade 2 and what they are expecting at the Prep. What a group of insightful, deep thinking boys who are up for the challenge and really see this as a huge adventure. Today we stood and respected the minute of silence at 11am in honour of all those lost in battle or through any other causes. We also acknowledge all those who are fighting silent battles that we may not even be aware of. It seems that some parents are not getting the updated version of our parent calendar. We recommend that parents view the school calendar online. For your convenience, please bookmark the Pre-Prep calendar https://prep.bishops.org.za/calendar/PrePrep/ in your browser of choice or add it to the home screen of your mobile device. Happy Birthday to Mrs Emily Venter on Monday 14th, Mr Mvume Mqingwana on Tuesday 15th and finally Mrs Siophan Van der Westhuizen on Thursday 17th November. Wishing you a restful, fun weekend.

Kind regards

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
Prayer Message

All Saints and Remembrance

The Anglican church community celebrated All Saints Day on the 1st on November, remembering all the faithful departed that have gone before us. This tied in very well with the Remembrance week in the life of our school where we commemorate the lives of Bishops scholars who took part and gave up their lives during WWII.
This we celebrate by sharing together a moment of silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month. We too, in this moment, continue to reserve this silence for the families and our families who have lost loved ones in various wars of the world such as injustices, poverty, criminal activities and many other pandemics with the most recent, waves of Covid 19.

Let us pray
God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age as we rejoice in the faith of your saints, please inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you in the power of the Holy Spirit now and forever
Amen

GENERAL INFO
Class Reps

If there are any parents that would be interested in finding out more about the role of the class rep, please be invited to join Nida and Nivy for coffee and a chat.  Sometimes these roles seem more daunting than they really are so please come along if you may be contemplating this role next year.  Remember we would like class reps that have not filled the role before so there will be many new to this position. Come along and find out more. They will be in the Mitre on Friday 18th @ 8am.  Please feel free to join them.
HIGHLIGHTS
Grade N

This week the theme in Grade N has been Occupations. The boys have been engaged in role play exploring different roles in our community. The boys' continued their investigation of experiments and used corn starch to test out some experiments of their own.

Grade R

This week in Grade R we have been hard at work developing our mathematical skills while using playdough and number charts. During art time we participated in box building and made the most impressive creations of which we were very proud. Our theme at the moment is Wild Animals and what fun it was to create our own 3D leopard tortoise which forms part of the little five. We were very lucky to have some keen dads play cricket with us on Wednesday morning. Thank you dads! Love the Grade R boys.

Grade 1

The grade 1’s have been learning about money this term. We put all our skills into practise by having a Trading Day and each boy got to experience selling and buying their items to their peers.
The boys had such fun and went home with full shopping bags and big smiles.

Grade 2

In technology, our boys recreated the poppy with lego pieces. They have been learning about Remembrance Day through the week. A group of Grade 2 art club boys have been very busy over the past two weeks. They made master pieces that looked like stain glass window art. Much planning and preparation went into these designs before the final product was produced. Well done boys! Our jungle gym area is under construction, but will be ready soon for our Grade 2 boys to climb, sail, swing, slide and more. Keep your eye out when you visit your son’s classroom over the next two weeks.
