Dear Parents
The Pre-Prep boys have really enjoyed the great weather and have taken every opportunity to play outside. The cricket matches are reaching IPL level and the chess games could easily be part of a league! Please be reminded to send water bottles to school and a hat is essential for boys out in the sun. We have built two new water fountains – one outside the Grade N classes and one outside the library. These are wonderful for this hot weather. The smaller one is outside Grade N to make them easily accessible to the little boys. Thank you to our wonderful maintenance team for getting these up so quickly. Our Grade 2 boys have had much to discuss after their visits to the Grade 3 classes. They have asked many questions and tell me that they are more than ready to make the trip across the road to the Prep campus! Today we had civvies day and collected money towards the wonderful people who keep us clean and safe at school. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. If you would still like to send a contribution, please feel free to send it to the office and we will add it to what we have. Next week I will launch our Christmas hamper collection where we bless all our helpers with some lovely goodies for their Christmas table. Please keep an eye on next week’s newsletter. The takkie collection has come to an end and I can just picture the many happy faces that will be receiving these shoes. I cannot single out one class as there have been so many that have contributed. I will reward all the boys with something of their choice (pizza is not always that appealing to the Pre-Prep boys as they are privileged to enjoy this treat every Friday). I will however offer each class a choice of their reward and they will all enjoy a treat together. .
Wishing you all a happy and restful weekend.
Kind regards
SHARLENE GROOM

TAKE NOTE |
Staffing
Ms Claire du Toit was off last term due to a medical condition. Her doctors have advised her to continue her recovery time this term and she is sadly not going to return to Bishops next year. Mrs Nathierah Esa (currently at the Bishops Support Unit) who has been working with many of our boys this year, will pick up from Claire du Toit on a part time basis this term and will continue as our full time Educational Psychologist and Learning Support Co-ordinator from 2023. Mrs Essa has worked at Oakley House in the Remedial department before joining the BSU this year.

Renovations
We will be undertaking a major renovation project at the main entrance to the College that will provide suitable space for our security guards as well as secure gates that will allow us to close off the College if needed. In addition, we will be providing proper parking bays on the left as one enters the campus, resurfacing the first section of the road up to the Woodlands entrance and lighting the avenue to allow for better security at night. This project will significantly improve the entrance to the school but will cause some discomfort for a while as the work is being done. We will shortly be instituting a one-way traffic flow (as for Covid) into the campus from Campground Road with the exit out the bottom via Silwood Road (one way out) and Riverton Road (both in and out). We apologise for this inconvenience, but the end result will be worth the discomfort! |
Athletics
Our track athletes did us proud under lights at the Inter-schools athletics meeting at Paarl Boys' High on Monday night and out at Stellenbosch on Thursday. Well done to all the boys who ran their hearts out and congratulations to all the medal winners. |

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP |
Message from our Youth Pastor
This week has been a significant one in the life of our school as we gathered for Bishops Praise. This coincided with the Hindu festival Diwali which is the festival of Lights. It was a day to remember as we learned that darkness can never overcome the Light. This continues to be our prayer for our school, our homes and the world at large.
Lets us pray
Lighten our darkness, Lord. By your great mercy, defend us through all the perils and dangers of the dark. For the love of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen

HIGHLIGHTS |
Grade 2 |
 |
The Grade 2’s have been hard at work politely asking Father Christmas what they would like for Christmas time! They wrote their very own postcard, and these will be sent to Father Christmas at the beginning of December. Pop into the classroom to have a look what items have been requested before the postcards get sent to the North Pole! We had a fantastic visit to the Prep school where the boys got to meet their Grade 3 buddy again. They chatted and got to know each other and had a good look inside the Grade 3 classrooms. Our innovative boys have been making all sorts of interesting things in the sandpit this week. Their latest idea was to set up a shop to ‘sell’ their sand balls. Never a dull moment in Grade 2! |
Grade 1 |
 |
Our Grade 1 boys love to investigate! This week they used 3D shapes to try solve the countries energy crisis with their kinetic generator construction! They also spent time discovering the value of the Rand in preparation for Trading Day, making shopping choices between wants and needs… Nutella appeared to be a popular choice. We continue to explore careers and this week we focused on doctors. MANY boys proudly shared their first-hand information regarding this occupation. |
Grade R |
 |
This week the Grade Rs have been learning about Castles. They enjoyed designing castles, using 3D shapes, blocks and boxes, drawing themselves as a king and making playdough portcullises. They even built sandcastles and painted with sandy paint. They had a royally great time! |
Grade N |
 |
The Grade N boys went to the Museum of Childhood this week. Again, the boys had a wonderful time discovering a new place and taking part in new activities. |
 |
The boys have also been exploring numbers and measurement. They are developing the ability to practically compare objects and to understand that these objects can be measured in different ways. |
