FRIDAY 23 September 2022

Dear Parents

This has been the last week of extra mural activities for this term. The new Term 4 sport calendar will be available on Monday on MyBishopsLife and looks quite similar to the Term 1 programme. Please confirm your bookings with privately offered activities to avoid disappointment. We have asked boys to please return all library books this week to enable us to do a thorough stocktake and try and find any missing books. Please could you remind the boys and also have a look in case there are some school library books still at home that have been forgotten. Today the staff and boys celebrated Heritage Day. What a wonderful celebration of everyone's Heritage all so different and yet all under the common banner of living in South Africa.  Wishing you all a fabulous Heritage Day tomorrow, no matter how you choose to celebrate it. We will end the term off on Friday 30th, with the raffle draw for those amazing hampers! There is still time to purchase tickets to enter. Wishing our new teacher, Anna Smith in Grade N, a very happy birthday for Friday 30th.

Kind regards

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
Message from our Youth Pastor
On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
This day reminds us of the trails and tribulations we have overcome from before and how far we have come as a nation.
We are also presented with a chance to embrace and learn about each other’s diversities and cultures. For us to live in harmony, we do need to understand one another.
Above all, today is significant because it provides us with an opportunity to understand our roots and become grounded. Through this we know where we come from, and therefore gain clarity about where we are going. We are reminded to make space for each other wherever we may find ourselves and to co-exist in a world God has created for us all
There is an African proverb that says- “umntu ngumntu ngabantu” which when translated means, I am, because you are. This gives us a clear understanding of how interdependent we actually are. - Mr Lutho Tsotso
GENERAL INFO
Gary Kirsten talk - Parenting in Sport

It was great seeing such a full hall at this talk on Monday evening.  Gary tackled the topic Parenting in Sport – “It seems we have forgotten that school is a place where you learn. It is a place of preparation, not performance. Once you have learnt skills and gained confidence based on real competence, you are better prepared for the stress of performance and competition". If you were unable to attend, it would be a great idea to chat to some of the parents who were there as I am sure they will share some valuable information with you about what they learnt from this wise man.

School attendance

We wish to draw parents attention to the many boys who do not attend school at the end of a term or the beginning of a new term.  While we do understand that there are travelling emergencies, the last week of a term does not allow for boys to take days off to extend their holidays.  The school requires written permission for boys to be absent for such occasions and we respectfully request parents to revise their holiday plans and include school attendance until the last day of the term or year, and the start of the new term/year.  Each section of the school have a few days allocated to boys for emergency travel. This stretches over all 4 years at the Pre-Prep and is quickly exhausted. We also politely request that all boys arrive on time for an 8am start to the day.  Thank you for your understanding.

HIGHLIGHTS
Grade N

The Grade N’s have been learning about life cycles and emotions over the last two weeks. Last week, they engaged in a hands-on investigation of the plant's life cycle as they planted their own beans and continue to track their progress as they grow. This week they discussed and explored different emotions and how each of us is unique. They spent time studying themselves in the mirror and drawing themselves, as well as using open-ended materials to create their faces.

Grade R

This week in Grade R we have been really busy. We went for a walk to Unis, the fruit and veggie seller on the Glebe Land. It was so exciting to spend our R10 on locally produced fruit. The boys learnt how much they could buy for the money they had and some even got change. Some boys built beautiful South African flag designs out of pegs. Amazing work boys! Plenty of wonderful creations were built out of blocks, even a zoo. We look forward to the last few days of term.

Grade 1

The Grade 1's were learning all about the plant life cycle and what plants need to grow. Our book of the week 'The Giving Tree' allowed us to explore how we can be blessings and full of kindness. The boys are now able to use all their phonics and sentence building skills and are exploring creative writing.

Grade 2
The Grade 2’s had a fantastic time celebrating Heritage Day on Friday. We tasted some South African foods and enjoyed chatting about our different outfits representing our many heritages.
Look how amazing these boys look! Thank you all for making such an effort.
