Dear Parents

A warm welcome back to Term 3! The early morning winter chill has certainly set in, but the energy on campus has been wonderful as our boys returned this week. It’s always wonderful to see how much they grow and change, even in such a short break. 

Tomorrow, we join in honouring Nelson Mandela, a reminder of the values he lived by—compassion, justice, and service to others. July 18th is more than a date; it’s an invitation to act with kindness and make a difference in our community. Thank you for your generous support of our Socks and Sarmies initiative, which embodies this spirit of giving. 

Our boys have been working hard to prepare for Grandparents’ Day (07 August), and the excitement is bubbling over like an Alice in Wonderland tea party. They’ve poured their energy into making the day as special as Alice's world of wonder and surprise. We look forward to welcoming our grandparents and to sharing a morning filled with joy and creativity.  

The weeks ahead promise to be busy, joyful, and full of opportunities for learning, connection, and celebration.  

We would like to wish a happy birthday to Miss Danae Marais on the 25th July and Miss Joy Jassett on the 26 July.

Mandela Day - Socks and Samies

Tomorrow we will be celebrating our 67 minutes. Gr Ns and Rs are donating new socks and the Grade 1s and 2s will be making sandwiches. Please could each Gr 1 and 2 boy bring a loaf of bread as well as a spread (peanut butter, jam, or cheese spread) as requested.
The boys will also need to bring a butter knife from home. Please ensure that it is clearly labelled with their name on it so that we can ensure that it is returned home. Thank you.

Hair Policy

We are pleased to see so many boys back at school with lovely, neat haircuts. Please refer to our Hair Policy below should you need to:

• All hair types and styles must be kept above the eyebrows, ears and collars so that it is always combed, neat and tidy.
• Hair should be tapered so that the difference between the length of the top and sides is not excessive. Short dreads and short afros are allowed.
• Step cuts, cut patterns or lines, extensions, dyes, highlights, or extreme skin fades are not permitted.
• A boy with a non-conforming hairstyle will have a maximum of FIVE days to cut his hair.
• All parents are asked to support the school hair policy and ensure that their son’s hair meets the requirements of the policy.

Growing Good Fruit

The beginning of a new term is always an exciting time, filled with new opportunities to learn, make friends and grow together.

In chapel this week, we began thinking about the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5. Just as a healthy tree grows good fruit, God helps us to grow beautiful qualities in our own lives. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control are gifts that God grows in us as we learn to follow Him.

My prayer for each of our boys is that they will grow in these qualities each day. Imagine what a wonderful place our school becomes when we choose kindness over unkindness, patience over frustration, and love in everything we do. These small choices help us become more like Jesus and make a big difference in the lives of those around us.

May this be a joyful term where our boys continue to grow, not only in their learning, but also in character and faith, bearing fruit that reflects God’s love to everyone they meet.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

It has been wonderful to welcome the boys back after their long holiday! We have loved hearing all about their adventures and are delighted to see how much they have grown — both emotionally and physically. This week we have begun re-introducing our MITRE values, with a special focus on manners. It has been heart-warming to see so many boys already putting these into practise with kindness and enthusiasm. Well done, boys — keep shining. We look forward to an exciting term ahead filled with learning, friendship, and growth.

Welcome to Term 3! The year is certainly flying by, and it has been wonderful to welcome the boys back looking taller, more mature, and ready for another exciting term of learning. We have loved hearing all about their holiday adventures and seeing their enthusiasm as they reconnect with friends and settle back into classroom routines. This week, we are celebrating 100 Days of Grade R with fun crown-making and art activities as we reflect on just how much the boys have learnt and grown. One of our Grade R classrooms also received a beautiful makeover during the holidays, creating a warm, inviting, and calming learning space for our boys to enjoy.

We are delighted to welcome Kelly Japhta to our Grade R team as our new teaching assistant, while also preparing to say a heartfelt farewell to Charmaine Adams in the coming weeks. We thank Charmaine for her dedication, kindness, and care, and know she will be greatly missed by both staff and boys. We look forward to a term filled with curiosity, growth, new experiences, and many special memories together.

It has been wonderful to welcome the boys back to school. They all seem to have grown over the holidays, and it has been lovely hearing about their holiday adventures and sharing their exciting news with the class. We have started the term with great enthusiasm as the boys continue practising for our much-anticipated Grandparents' Day celebration. Our theme for the term is Natural Disasters, and we look forward to exploring fascinating topics such as volcanoes, earthquakes, floods and tornadoes through a range of engaging learning activities. We are excited for another busy and rewarding term filled with learning, growth and plenty of memorable moments.
