Dear Parents
As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, I am filled with pride at how much our boys have grown — not only in their learning, but also in their character and confidence. Each day has brought moments of curiosity, resilience, and joy, and it has been a privilege to watch them embrace challenges and celebrate achievements together. Their progress is a testament to the partnership between home and school, and to the dedication of our staff who nurture and guide them with such care.
Staff News
Mrs Charmaine Adams, who has been our Grade N and R class assistant for the past eleven years, will be leaving the Pre-Prep at the end of July. Mrs Adams has had a positive influence on so many boys and is a special, much-loved colleague. Charmaine leaves us to take up a position as an Office Administrator at the College on 1 August. Congratulations, Mrs Adams.
We will be welcoming Ms Kelley Japtha as our new Grade R Green class assistant on 20 July. Ms Japtha joins us from Yeshua Christian Primary School, where she was a learning support teacher.
I, along with a number of Bishops colleagues in the College and Prep, will be attending the International Boys Schools Coalition annual conference, hosted this year in South Africa at St Stithian’s Boys College. The IBSC is a wonderful organisation with a singular focus on the education of boys, and we are looking forward to both sharing with and learning from colleagues from around the world.
As we pause now for the holidays, I wish all our families a safe, restful, and joy-filled break. May this time be full of laughter, memory-making, and opportunities to recharge. We look forward to welcoming the boys back with fresh energy and stories to share.
We would like to wish Happy Birthday to Mrs van Zyl 5th July, Ms Tandwa 8th July, Mrs Green 10th July and Mrs Durham for the 18th July.
Kind regards

TARYN BAIN

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP |
Pre-Prep Newsletter Reflection
As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to take a moment to reflect with gratitude on all that we have shared together in the Pre-Prep. It has been a joy to spend time with the boys in Chapel, classrooms and around the campus as we have explored God's love, His faithfulness and His promises. The Pre-Prep years are such an important season in a child's life, and it has been wonderful to see our boys growing in confidence, kindness, curiosity and faith.
Throughout this term, our Chapel theme has focused on God's promises. Together, we have learned that God is always with us, that He loves us deeply and that we can trust Him no matter what we face. Whether through Bible stories, songs, prayers or conversations, the boys have been encouraged to see that God is at work in both the joyful moments and the challenging ones. My hope is that these seeds of faith will continue to grow as they learn to trust God more each day.
I would like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive parents for the countless ways in which you nurture and encourage our boys. The partnership between home and school plays such an important role in helping children flourish. As the holidays begin, I pray that every family will enjoy a time of rest, laughter and meaningful moments together. May God's peace and blessing be with you all, and we look forward to welcoming our boys back for another exciting term in Term 3.
With love and blessings,
The Revd. Khwezi Bengani |

HIGHLIGHTS |
| Grade 2 |
 |
The Grade 2s have had an exciting two weeks filled with fun, learning, and memorable experiences!
Our boys thoroughly enjoyed their special Gentlemen’s Tea, where they were joined by special guests. The delicious cupcakes and brownies were definite highlights for many!
In Technology, the boys took part in both an inter-house and grade paper plane competition. The standard was incredibly high, with learners showing excellent folding skills and creativity. Congratulations to our winners: Aggie Madison (2H), Alexander Hamman (2G), and Sabatha Mbanga (2D) — their planes were truly outstanding!
As part of our Proudly South African theme, the boys worked collaboratively in groups to learn about different cultures and present their findings to the class. This was a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and broaden their understanding of diversity.
The boys also enjoyed a creative beading activity, followed by an energetic and engaging drumming workshop, which was a firm favourite.
It has been a fantastic end to the term, with the boys finishing on a real high! |

Soccer Fever Takes Over!
The final weeks of Term 2 have been filled with excitement, energy, and plenty of soccer fever! With the Soccer World Cup capturing everyone’s attention, our classrooms embraced a fun and creative soccer theme that brought learning and celebration together beautifully. We kicked things off in true South African spirit by supporting Bafana Bafana, proudly dressing in our green and gold gear. The enthusiasm was contagious, and it set the tone for all the wonderful activities that followed. The boys had a fantastic time designing their own soccer t-shirts, each one bursting with creativity and individuality. They also became “world travellers” by creating their own World Cup passports, exploring different countries and teams in a fun and engaging way. Adding to the excitement, the boys showed off their imagination by designing their very own mascots. From fierce animals to quirky characters, their ideas were both unique and imaginative, reflecting their growing confidence and creativity. One of the highlights of these final weeks was undoubtedly our Soccer Party Day – and what a day it was! The boys had an absolute ball taking part in a soccer-themed scavenger hunt, working together to solve clues and find hidden treasures. There were plenty of laughs during the party games, and the energy reached new heights when we welcomed our dads to join in for some friendly soccer matches. It was truly special to see the boys enjoying the game both with their fathers and with their friends, creating memories that will last a long time. As we wraped up the term, there has has still been plenty happening. The boys have been hard at work practising for Grandparents’ Day, putting in great effort as they prepare to showcase their talents and make the day extra special for their loved ones. |
| Grade R |
 |
| It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another term. Grade R has been so busy that our days just fly by. The teachers are so proud of how the boys have each developed in their own individual way. As we welcomed some colder weather, the boys keep warm inside practising their fine motor skills and engaging in group construction toys such as Lego. Working together is such an important part of the boy's development as they learn to share, negotiate, problem-solve and create in a group. To end our busy term, we enjoyed a wonderful story telling session with Gilly Southwood. We are sure if you ask your boys about it, they can tell you some of the stories she read to them. They were mostly about animals. The Grade R team wish all their families a wonderful holiday and look forward to welcoming the boys back in the third term. |
| Grade N |
 |
Our boys have enjoyed a fun-filled end to the term, with the highlight being a visit from the wonderful Gilly Southwood and her Animal Tales. The boys were completely enthralled as Gilly brought her stories to life using a drum and singing bowl, capturing their imaginations without the use of books.
We also celebrated a special milestone birthday for Mrs Van Zyl, who will be celebrating during the holidays. In addition, we said goodbye to two of our Grade N boys, Luhaav and Kgalalelo, who are moving to different countries. We wish them and their families every happiness on their exciting new adventures.
Have a wonderful holiday, Grade Ns! We can’t wait to hear all about your adventures next term. |
| VUSA News and 24hr Cycle Challenge |
 |
Whether through attending events, donating clothing, volunteering, supporting our fundraising efforts or simply following our journey, your involvement helps create opportunities for children in Langa through sport, education and holistic support. We are grateful not only for your support, but also for the values being instilled in your children. Last week, we received a really sweet video from the Skeeles Tournament showing a group of Grade 4 boys enthusiastically cheering on the VUSA players from the sidelines. It was a small but powerful reminder of the connections being built between the VUSA and Bishops children.

You'll also find information about this year's 24 Hour Cycle Challenge, taking place on 5–6 September. Registration for Prep School riders will open during the first week of Term 3. The current sign-up link is intended for all parents and College pupils as this sign-up form is for the 24 hour event. If you have daughters or children in other high schools, please feel free to share the event details with them, as we will once again be inviting partner schools to join the fun.
Wishing you all a wonderful, safe holiday. Thank you again for your kindness, generosity and support.
From the VUSA Team. |
